F occidentalis has distributed mainly over medicago and lentil fields, and it was found also in the wheat-fields with Sinapis arvensis (Linneaus). In order to distinguish the new pest from the old one, Thrips tabaci Lindeman, and from the close species, Frankliniella intonsa (Trybom), an identification key was provided.
