Türkiye-Suriye turizm ilişkilerinin gelişmesi önündeki engeller ( Doğu Akdeniz bölgesine yönelik bir alan araştırması )

Abstract

Türkiye ile Suriye’nin sahip oldukları ortak kültür, tarih ve coğrafyaya rağmen turizm ilişkilerinin beklenen düzeyde gelişmediği bilinmektedir. Bu araştırma ile, iki ülke arasında turizmin gelişmesini etkileyen ekonomik, sosyal, siyasal ve fiziksel çevre engellerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın ana kütlesini, Türkiye’nin Doğu Akdeniz Bölgesinde özellikle Suriyeli turistlere hizmet sunan acente, otel yöneticileri ve turizm ile ilgili kamu yöneticileri oluşturmuştur. Tam sayım yapılması hedeflenmiş, ancak görüşme talebine olumlu yanıt alınamaması gibi nedenlerden dolayı toplam 88 kişi ile yüz yüze görüşülmüştür. Araştırmadaki veriler, geliştirilen bir anket yardımıyla elde edilmiş olup, anket 2009 yılı Ocak-Nisan ayları arasında uygulanmıştır. Ekonomik engellerden alt yapı yetersizlikleri, sosyal engellerden tanıtım ve imaj sorunu ile nitelikli personel olmaması, siyasal engellerden sınır kapılarında yaşanan güçlükler, fiziksel çevre engellerinden cazibe merkezlerinin olmaması bölge turizminin gelişmesindeki başlıca engeller olarak belirlenmiştir. Bölgenin turizm sorunlarının çözümüne yönelik olarak; ulaşım sistemlerinin güçlendirilmesi, otel, lokanta vb. tesislerin artırılması gibi alt yapı çalışmalarının yapılması, tanıtım ve imaj sorununu giderecek faaliyetlerin etkin biçimde planlanması, bölgenin turizm özelliklerini bilen, eğitimli personelin istihdam edilmesi, sınır kapılarındaki fiili ve yasal zorlukların giderilmesi gerekmektedir.

Despite the close connection between two countries in terms of culture, history and geography, tourism relationship between Turkey and Syria has not developed to the expected level. So, this study was aimed at determining the barriers affecting the development of tourism sector as economically, socially, politicaly and environmentally. The population of the research was made of travel agencies, hotels and public sector managers delivering/in charge of services provided for Syrian tourist especially. Although it was aimed to reach the whole population only 88 persons can be interviewed due to various difficulties such as having negative response to interview request. Research data was collected through questionnaires developed for the survey and was analyzed by using one way ANOVA. The survey was executed between January 2009 and April 2009. Lack of infrastructure as economic barriers, advertisement and image problems and incompetency of personnel as social barriers, difficulties in border customs as political barriers and lack of attractive destinations as physical environmental barriers were determined as major barriers to developing tourism in the region. In order to produce solutions to the regional tourism problems; strengthening transit systems, increasing infrastructure in terms of hotels, restaurants etc., effectively planning activities that will overcome advertisement and images problems, employing well qualified personnel who knows best about touristic characteristics of the region, and alleviating the legal and formal barriers at border gates are needed.
