Hatay'da müslüman hristiyan etkileşimi : St. Georges ya da Hızır kültü

Abstract

Anadolu’ya Türklerin yerleşmesiyle birlikte başlayan İslamlaşma ve Türkleşme sürecinde, Müslüman Türklerle yerli Hıristiyan halk arasındaki karşılıklı dini etkileşimlerin en önemli örneklerinden biri de St. Georges (Aya Yorgi) kültüdür. Bugün de Müslüman ve Hıristiyanların birlikte yaşadığı bölgelerde bu dini etkileşim sonucunda St. Georges ve Hızır kültlerinin ne denli birbirlerine karıştıklarını gözlemlemek olasıdır. Anadolu’nun birçok bölgesinde olduğu gibi Hatay’da da Hızır kültü, Hıristiyan-Müslüman dini etkileşiminin gözler önüne serilmesi bakımından iyi bir örnek oluşturmaktadır. Hatay‘da Hıdrellez (ya da St. Georges Günü) Müslüman ve Hıristiyanlar tarafından birlikte kutlanmakta ve Hızır ve St. Georges hakkında benzer söylenceler anlatılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Hatay’da St. Georges ya da Hızır kültü konusundaki dini etkileşim alan araştırmasından elde edilen örneklere dayanarak anlatılmış ve değerlendirilmiştir.

In Anatolia, Khezr and St. George are two personages identified with each other with respect to both their characteristic features and their functions. St. Georges (Aya Yorgi) cult is one of the most significant examples of mutual religious interactions between Muslim Turks and native Christian community during the process of Islamizing and Turkicizing beginning with the settlement of the Turks in Anatolia. Even today it is quite possible to observe how much St. Georges and Khezr cults have been mixed into each other as a result of this religious interaction in the regions where Muslims and Christians live together. The celebrations of Hıdrellez (or St. Georges’Day), celebrated by Muslims and Christians together, also set a good example pointing to Christian-Muslim interaction in Hatay. Although there are various perceptions about his identity, all ethnic groups in Hatay have the Khezr belief. In Hatay, the legend of “the killing of the dragon”, known to be of St. Georges, is also attributed to Hıdır Bey, who is thought to be the same person as St. Georges, and told with some changes in the place. Thus, dwelling on the findings from our field researches, the main objective of this article has been determined as the examination of the aspects and dimensions of, as well as the reasons for, the religious interaction between Christians and Muslims on Khezr kult in Hatay.
