Fen bilimleri eğitiminde GEMS etkinlikleri kullanılmasına yönelik öğretmen adaylarının görüşleri

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, fen bilimleri öğretmen adaylarının GEMS (Fen ve Matematikte Büyük Buluşlar) programı etkinlikleri hakkındaki görüşlerini almaktır. Çalışmada zayıf deneysel desenlerden kontrol grupsuz son-test deneysel deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışma, uygun örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalında öğrenim gören 64 öğretmen adayı ile yürütülmüştür. GEMS etkinlikleriyle ilgili açık uçlu sorular veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada nitel verilerin analizinde kullanılan içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular; GEMS etkinliklerine yönelik düşünceler, Öz değerlendirme ve Öğretim programına göre değerlendirme olmak üzere 3 kategoriye ayrılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarının, GEMS etkinliklerine yönelik çoğunlukla olumlu düşüncelere sahip olduğu, derinlemesine bilgi edinmenin, günlük hayatla ilişki kurmanın, eğlenmenin, kalıcı öğrenmenin ve yaşayarak öğrenmenin GEMS etkinlikleriyle mümkün olduğu görüşünde oldukları bulunmuştur. Ayrıca uygulanan etkinliğin kendilerinde olumlu etkiler bırakan adayların çoğu, derse karşı ilgilerinin arttığını, bu tür etkinlikleri kendilerinin de tasarlayabileceğini ve bu tür etkinlikleri sıklıkla kullanacağını ifade etmişlerdir. Son olarak, öğretmen adayları, fen bilimleri konularının çoğu için GEMS etkinliklerinin tasarlanabileceğini ve bu etkinliklerin uygulanmasının gerekli olduğunu ve öğrenciler için faydalı olacağını belirtmişlerdir

The purpose of this study, to get opinions about GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) activities of prospective science teachers. In the study, pre-experimental design without control group post-test was employed. The study selected by convenience sampling was carried out by 64 prospective science teachers who study in the Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education in Mustafa Kemal University. Open-ended questions were asked as data collection instrument about GEMS activities. In analyzing data which were collected from the research, the researchers used qualitative content analysis techniques. As results of analysis data were categorized into 3 groups; Thoughts about GEMS activities, Self-assessments, According to the curriculum assessment. The study showed the following results. The prospective science teachers have largely positive thoughts about GEMS activities. They thought that acquire in-depth knowledge, make contact with daily life, have fun, permanent learning, learning by experiencing are possible with the GEMS activities. Also, most of them whose make a positive impact on prospective science teachers' by activities have increased their interest in courses and they can design GEMS activity and they would often use the activities. Finally, thought that for most of science subjects can be designed GEMS activities and it is necessary to apply these activities at classroom and would be beneficial for students
