Green Infrastructure in Climate Resilient Urban Planning

Today, the vital effects of many social, economic and environmental problems experienced at the global level are observed predominantly in urban areas. The climate crisis, the depletion of resources and the increasing population have become greater threats to our planet. The Mother Earth needs a safe, responsible and sustainable future plan, and the implementation of this plan will start from the cities. Although the search for solutions is based on human health, needs and comfort; the solutions that need to be produced today have become a necessity for the future of the global society and our planet. The concept of “green infrastructure” is key in the construction of this new future. In this study, first of all, the concepts of urban climate, bioclimatic comfort, thermal comfort, urban heat island are explained and associated with green infrastructure; and the concept of green infrastructure and the services it provides in the city are evaluated with reference to these concepts. Following these explanations, the study is concluded with evaluations for the handling of green infrastructure systems in urban planning processes. © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.
