Öğe The Effect of Brotizolam Induced Appetite on Serum Ghrelin Levels in Mice(2021) Öztürk, Atakan; Öztürk, Aliye SağkanObjective: Appetite is affected by the metabolic profile, infections and nutritional shape in domestic animals. Regulation of appetite involves many complex physiological processes. Ghrelin is well known appetite-enhancing hormone. The appetite is also managed by the lateral hypothalamus. On the other hand, the ventromedial nucleus is most commonly associated with satiety. Brotizolam, member of the 1,4-benzodiazepines derivative, is blocking the activity of the ventromedial hypothalamus and used to increase appetite in domestic animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of brotizolam on serum ghrelin levels, enhancer appetite hormone. Methods: A total of 16 mice were equally assigned to two groups as control (0.9% NaCl, IP) and brotizolam (2 ?g/kg, IP). Blood samples was collected 30 min after the administration in both groups. Serum ghrelin levels were determined by enzyme linked immunoassay. Results: There was a significance differences between control and brotizolam groups (P<0.001). The results of the study showed that the administration of brotizolam increased serum ghrelin levels. Conclusion: Brotizolam, which suppresses ventromedial hypothalamus and satiety, can activate appetite by activation of the lateral hypothalamus and increase in ghrelin levels. In addition, ghrelin may be used as an endocrine marker of appetite.Öğe Evaluation of motility hormones in dairy cattle with omasal impaction and caecal dilatation(2015) Öztürk, Aliye Sağkan; Aşkar Kontaş, TünayBu çalışmanın amacı, omazum konstipasyonlarında (OK) ve sekum dilatasyonunda (SD) sığırlarda motilite hormon düzeylerini değerlendirmektir. The study looked at post-pandemic (June 2021–June 2022) diagnosis data of cats with gastrointestinal, urinary tract, and hepatobiliary diseases (n: 147), admitted to Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Veterinary Health, Practice, and Research Center. The average age of the cats admitted to the clinic was 33.04 ± 2.77 months in post-pandemic period. The ages of the cats diagnosed with gastrointestinal, urinary tract and hepatobiliary diseases were 27.78 ± 4.33, 38.04 ± 3.95, and 40.12 ± 6.27, respectively. There were no breed and sex difference for diseases diagnosed in post-pandemic duration. Distributions of gastrointestinal, urinary, and hepatobiliary diseases were determined as 51.0%, 37.4%, and 11.6%, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the cat breeds that presented to the clinic in terms of gastrointestinal, urinary, and hepatobiliary diseases. Gastroenteritis (40%), gastritis (17.33%), and unconfirmed and suspected Feline inflammatory bowel disease (13.33%) are more diagnosed digestive system diseases. Cystitis (54.54%) and hemorrhagic cystitis (32.72%) were commonly diagnosed in urinary diseases. Besides, cholangiohepatitis was commonly diagnosed either alone (41.17%) or accompanied by hepatic lipidosis (23.52%) or cholecystitis (17.65%) in cats following the pandemic. Consequentially, although restrictions implemented during the pandemic that caused stress on cats were ended, the chronic impacts of stress seem to be continuing on cats, especially in terms of the gastrointestinal system, following the pandemic.
