Öğe Comparison of the Cyclic Fatigue Resistance of Reciproc and Reciproc Blue Nickel-Titanium Instruments in Artificial Canals with Single and Double (S-shaped) Curvatures(Aves Press Ltd, 2017) Adiguzel, Mehmet; Turgay, BerkObjective: The aim of this study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) and Reciproc Blue (VDW) in artificial canals with both single and double (s-shaped) curvatures. Methods: In total, 80 instruments were tested in this study. Reciproc R40 and Reciproc Blue R40 instruments were selected for the cyclic fatigue resistance test (n=20 in each test). Each instrument was rotated in canals with a single curvature (60 degrees curvature, 5-mm radius) and a double curvature (first coronal curve: 60 degrees curvature and 5-mm radius; second apical curve: 70 degrees and 2-mm radius) until fracture. The time to fracture was calculated, and the length of each fractured fragment was recorded. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post hoc tests were used to analyse the time to failure. Results: All the instruments had significantly higher fatigue resistance in the single simulated curvature canal than in the double curvature canal (P<0.05). In both curvature groups, the time to fracture of the Reciproc Blue was longer than that of the Reciproc instruments (P<0.05). In the double curvature canal, the instruments tended to fracture more often in the apical curvature than in the coronal curvature. There was no significant difference in the length of the broken fragments between the two groups in either the single or double canal curvatures (P>0.05). Conclusion: The Reciproc Blue instruments showed higher cyclic fatigue resistance than the Reciproc instruments in both single and double canal curvatures.Öğe The effects of QMix and EndoActivator on postoperative pain in mandibular molars with nonvital pulps: a randomized clinical trial(Springer Heidelberg, 2019) Yilmaz, Koray; Tufenkci, Pelin; Adiguzel, MehmetAim The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different irrigation solutions when used EndoActivator on postoperative pain. Methodology A total of 104 subjects with nonvital pulps were selected and randomly assigned to four experimental groups; (G) 1 (n = 26) 2.5% NaOCl + conventional endodontic syringe, (G) 2 (n = 26) 2.5% NaOCl + EndoActivator, (G) 3 (n = 26) 2.5% NaOCl + QMix + conventional endodontic syringe, (G) 4 (n = 26) 2.5% NaOCl + QMix + EndoActivator. All the patients were prescribed ibuprofen 400 mg to be taken every 8 h in case of pain. The patients were asked to rate the severity of the postoperative pain on a visual analog scale (VAS) for 8th, 24th, 48th, and 72nd hours after the visit. The data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, and Chi-Square tests. Results G4 resulted in lesser postoperative pain levels on 8th, 24th, 48th, and 72nd hours than the G2, G3, and G1 did. There was no significant difference between G4 and G2 and between G3 and G1 in terms of the postoperative pain levels at any time interval (P > 0.05). Conclusion It was determined that the postoperative values of the groups, in which EA was used, were statistically significantly lower than in the other groups. The combined use of QMix and EA provided the most significant decrease in the postoperative pain values.Öğe Focusing on physical symptoms and psychological trauma of patients with bruxism(Yerkure Tanitim & Yayincilik Hizmetleri A S, 2018) Sahpolat, Musa; Adiguzel, Mehmet; Ari, MustafaObjective: The aim of this study is to compare physical symptoms and childhood psychological trauma levels of bruxism patients with healty controls and to establish its relevance with sociodemographic characteristics. Material and Methods: This study was conducted in Department of Psychiatry in Mustafa Kemal University, Medical School and Faculty of Dentistry on 57 patients with bruxism and on 57 healthy controls who applied to outpatient clinics and accepted to join the study. Clinical diagnosis of bruxism was made according to Rugh and Harlan's criteria of selection. Sociodemographics data sheet, Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS) and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) were applied by clinicians. Results: The mean age of patients with bruxism was determined 28.7 +/- 9.1 years, 63.1% (n=36) were women, 56.1% (n=32) were unmarried, and 54.3% (n=31) had low socioeconomic level. The mean SSAS score of patients with bruxism was detected statistically significantly higher than that of control group, but there was no statistically significant difference in the mean CTQ value between patient and control groups. There was positive and significantly correlation between CTQ and SSAS scores. Conclusion: In our study, increased focusing on physical symptoms, and a positive correlation between psychologic trauma and physical symptoms are defined in patients with bruxism. This fiunding points out that patients with bruxism may perceive normal physical sensations as intense, annoying and noxious. It is believed that individuals with bruxism seeking medical advice from different clinics may deserve a consultation to psychiatry clinics for diagnosis and treatment to define any underlying causes.
