Öğe AGE AND GROWTH OF BASSAN BARBEL, BARBUS PECTORALIS (ACTINOPTERYGII: CYPRINIFORMES: CYPRINIDAE), UNDER CONDITIONS OF A DAM RESERVOIR(Wydawnictwo Akad Rolniczej W Szczecinie, 2009) Ozcan, Gulnaz; Balik, SueleymanBackground. Bassan barbel, Barbus pectoralis Heckel, 1843, is widely distributed in the lakes and river systems of Turkey and its neighbouring countries. Bassan barbel is a fish species of commercial value. The aim of this study was to provide necessary biological features of bassan population from Kemer Reservoir. Materials and Methods. Biological aspects of Bassan barbel were studied based on a total of 206 specimens collected from Kemer Reservoir, during the period December 2004-November 2005. The fish age was determined from scales. Length-weight relation and Fulton's condition factor were used to evaluate fish condition. Results. The fish were from I to 6 year-old. Fork length (FL)-weight (R) relations were estimated as W=0.011 . FL2.980 for all specimens studied. The estimated growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation were: L-infinity=34.8 cm, W-infinity=549.58 g, K=0.168 . year(-1) and t(0)=-1.590 year for all specimens examined. Conclusion. The fish from Kemer Reservoir were characterized by an average growth rate and it was observed that the specimen grew fast during the first two years of life. The reason why bassan barbel had low condition values is probably because the environmental conditions in the reservoir were poor.Öğe Some biological parameters of the bergamae barb, Capoeta bergamae Karaman, 1969 (Cyprinidae), in Kemer reservoir (Aydin, Turkey)(Univ Oradea Publ House, 2009) Ozcan, Guelnaz; Balik, SueleymanThe age, growth and maturity of Capoeta bergamae Karaman, 1969, an endemic and vulnerable fish species from western Anatolia, were studied by monthly samplings throughout January - December 2006. Females represented 44.8% and males 55.2% of the individuals. Age determinations based on scale readings show that the population has four age classes. The von-Bertalanffy growth parameters were L infinity:25.0 cm, K=0.344 year(-1) and t(0)=-0.93 year for males respectively L infinity:27.2 cm, K=0.308 year(-1) and to=-0.92 for females. Length-weight relationships were estimated as W=0.020*L-2.85 (R-2=0.94) for males and W=0.021*L-2.84 (R-2=0.97) for females. The growth characteristics of both sexes were allometric (b=2.85 males; b=2.84 females). According to gonadosomatic index values, the reproduction period began in May and continued til July. Males reached maturity at smaller lengths (FL: 14.0 cm [SD: 0.34], 1.9 years) than females (FL: 15.4 cm [SD: 0.39], 2.2 years).
