Age and growth characteristics of Chalcalburnus mossulensis (Heckel, 1843) living in Karasu River (Erzurum-Turkey)
(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2003) Yildirim, A; Haliloglu, HI; Türkmen, M; Erdogan, O
The relationship of age, growth and length-weight was analyzed for Chalcalburnus mossulensis from the A kale region of Karasu River from November 1995 to October 1997. Fish in the sample groups were between I and 7 years and the ratio of males to females was 1:1.08. Von Bertalanffy equations were used to find the growth in length for both sexes. The growth parameters for males and females were estimated to be L-infinity = 19.88869 cm, K = 0.1867795 and t(0) = -2.3 and L-infinity = 21.8742 cm, K = 0.168014 and t(0) = -2.1. respectively. We also found that the length-weight relationships were a = 0.0129 and b = 2.913 for males and a = 0.073 and b = 3.136 for females.

The prevalence of stress urinary incontinence among women operated on for abdominal wall hernias
(Blackwell Munksgaard, 2004) Tok, EC; Ertunc, D; Dilek, U; Pata, O; Erdogan, O; Aydin, S
The high co-occurrence of an abdominal wall hernia (AWH) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) suggests that there is a common factor in the etiopathogenesis of these disorders in these patients.

Reproduction tactics, age and growth of Capoeta capoeta umbla Heckel 1843 from the Askale Region of the Karasu River, Turkey
    (Elsevier, 2002) Türkmen, M; Erdogan, O; Yildirim, A; Akyurt, I
The age, growth and reproduction are described for C c. umbla from the A kale Region of Karasu River from November 1995 to October 1997. Fish aged 1-12 years were present in the samples. The overall male to female ratio was 1.3:1.0. Growth in length was expressed for both sexes with the von Bertalanffy equations. Growth parameters were estimated as L-infinity = 42.3 cm, k = 0. 1457, t(0) = -0.98 for males: L-infinity 45.7 cm, k = 0. 1393, t(0) = -0.83 for females. The length-weight relationships were described for males (a = 0.0139, b = 2.936) and for females (a = 0.0117, b = 2.991). Fecundity ranged from 3754 to 35 859 ova per female for C c. umbla ranging from 21.0 to 40.2 cm fork length. Spawning period was between May and July, and males (16.9 cm) reached first maturity at smaller lengths than females (20.9 cm). (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Studies on the age, growth and reproduction characteristics of the chub, Leuciscus cephalus orientalis, (Nordmann, 1840) in Karasu River, Turkey
(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2002) Erdogan, O; Türkmen, M; Yildirim, A
This study is based on the examination of 759 chubs from Karasu River (40degrees 45' 33 E, 39degrees 56' 16 N) between November 1995 and October 1997. This population comprised seven age groups of males and nine of females. The second age group was dominant in the population. Individuals were composed of 50.46% males and 49.54% females. The male and female ratio was 1:1.019 (M:F). The Von Bertalariffy growth parameters and length-weight relationships were; L-t = 35.8765 (1-e-(0.1241(t+1.16660)), W-t = 583.2981 (1-e(-0,1241(t+1.16660)))(2.952), W = 0.0150 FL2.952 in males and L-t = 41.4154 (1-e(-0.1160(t+1.3207))), W-t = 936.3338 (1-e(-0.1160(t+1.3207))(2.980), W = 0.0142 FL2.980 in females, respectively. The condition coefficients of male, female and all specimens were; 1.32, 1.35 and 1.33, respectively. The relationships between fecundity (F) and fish length (FL), fish weight (W), gonad weight (W-o), and fish age (t) were; F = 1.699 FL2.847 (r = 0.813), F = 969.424 W-o(1.019) (r = 0.953), F = 95.669 W-0.955 (r = 0.843) and F = 862.017 t(0.589) (r = 0.814), respectively. In addition, the relationships. between gonad weight and total weight, fork length of samples were; W-o = 0.394 + 0.723 W (r = 0.763) and W-o = -8.953 + 0.894 FL (r = 0.714) in females (in 119 samples), W-t = 1.598 + 0.037 W (r = 0.660) and W-t = -2.965 + 0.429 FL (r 0.643) in males (in 117 samples), respectively. Fecundity varied from a mean of 5012 eggs per female (III years old) to a mean of 25,000 eggs per female (VIII years old). Egg diameter varied between 100 mum and 137 mum with a mean of 119 mum. The reproduction period of this species inhabiting Karasu River was between May and July, and the first reproduction ages were; age II (for males) and age III (for females).
