Öğe Determining attitudes toward e-learning: what are the attitudes of health professional students?(Springer Heidelberg, 2024) Gullu, Ayla; Kara, Mustafa; Akgun, SenayAim The research was carried out to determine the attitudes of nursing undergraduate students toward e-learning implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. Subject and methods The study sample consisted of 320 undergraduate students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing Department of a state university. Personal Information Form and the Test of e-Learning Related Attitudes were administered to the research participants. Results Of the students, 68.8% were female and 51.6% were between the ages of 21-24. The attitude of 55.3% (177) toward e-learning is negative. Attitude scores of students aged 25-29 were significantly higher compared to those aged 17-20 and 21-24 years old (p = 0.002). The attitude scores of the students who have a computer are significantly higher than those who do not (p = 0.001). Most students did not agree with the statement E-learning will provide me with better learning opportunities than conventional learning methods. (disagree n = 121; 37.8%, strongly disagree n = 110; 34.4%). Conclusion It is noticed that e-learning is not sufficient in subjects such as conducting clinical and laboratory practices in health sciences fields with practical training like nursing, and students' attitudes are generally negative. For undergraduate health sciences education, face-to-face and online education for support purposes can be used together in theoretical courses. In addition, it is recommended to use effective online communication techniques in online courses.Öğe Effectiveness of the transitional care model in total knee arthroplasty patients: A randomized controlled trial(Wiley, 2024) Gullu, Ayla; Tosun, BetulAimThis study has aimed to assess the effectiveness of the transitional care model (TCM) on functional status, perceived self-efficacy and healthcare utilization in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA).MethodThis randomized controlled study was conducted between February and November 2021 in a public hospital. The study randomly assigned patients to either a 6-week 'TCM' program or usual care. The sample size was n = 70, with each group comprising 35 individuals. Patient outcomes, including self-efficacy, functional status and healthcare service readmission rates, were monitored for TKA patients.ResultsNursing care based on the 'TCM' was found to enhance functional status and increase the level of self-efficacy among TKA patients, leading to a decrease in healthcare service readmissions.ConclusionsThe study recommends preparing patients and their families for the preoperative and postoperative processes. It emphasizes the importance of providing necessary training and consultancy services under the leadership of orthopaedic nurses responsible for TKA patient care, guided by the principles of TCM. What is already known about this topic? Treatment for knee osteoarthritis aims to alleviate pain, maintain joint functions and improve the quality of life. The success of transitional care relies on effective hospital discharge planning, post-discharge follow-up and home support to reduce adverse events.What this paper adds? Patients receiving TCM demonstrated improved outcomes and reduced healthcare service readmission rates. Nursing care based on the transitional care model positively affected the functional status of TKA patients. TCM increased patients' self-efficacy levels.The implications of this paper: Patient training and consultancy services should be led by nurses responsible for TKA patients, guided by the principles of TCM. TCM should serve as a valuable guide for nurses when planning care for TKA patients.Öğe Examining HPV knowledge levels of midwifery and nursing undergraduate students: A cross-sectional study in Turkey(Womens Health & Action Research Centre, 2023) Gullu, AylaHPV infection can lead to various diseases, from benign lesions to cancer, both in men and women. Health professionals with a high level of HPV knowledge will be effective in raising public awareness. This study aims to investigate the HPV knowledge level of midwifery and nursing students, who are future healthcare professionals. This study was carried out cross-sectionally. The data were collected between September and October 2022. The study was completed by 565 students. The form used is the 'Human Papilloma Virus Knowledge Scale (HPV-KS)'. The scale consists of 33 items and 4 sub-dimensions. The highest score to be obtained from the scale is 33 and the lowest score is 0. A high score indicates a high level of knowledge about HPV. In this study, it was found that nursing and midwifery students had low knowledge about HPV (11.45 +/- 6.79). The HPV knowledge level of midwifery students was found higher than nursing students (p=0.000). Female students scored significantly higher than males in the HPV testing knowledge questions (p=0.045) and HPV vaccine knowledge questions (p=0.022) sub-dimensions. The HPV knowledge score of the students who stated that they had sufficient knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases was also high (p=0.000). Awareness of HPV should be developed in nursing and midwifery students. It is important for nursing and midwifery students, who will provide health services after graduation, to have a high level of HPV knowledge in order to protect their own and society's health.
