Öğe Attitude of healthcare professionals in Türkiye to COVID-19 vaccine(Who Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, 2024) Gumustakim, Raziye Sule; Baser, Duygu Ayhan; Cevik, Murat; Guner, Pinar DonerBackground: The COVID-19 vaccine has been effective in reducing infection rates and disease severity; however, vaccination coverage has been lower than expected because of vaccine hesitancy, even among healthcare workers. Aim: To investigate the attitude of healthcare professionals in T & uuml;rkiye to the COVID-19 vaccine. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between December 2020 and February 2021 among physicians, nurses, midwives, emergency medical technicians, dieticians, and physiotherapists in T & uuml;rkiye, using the snowball sampling method for data collection. Data were analysed using SPSS version 23 and correlation analysis was conducted to evaluate linear relationship, and multivariate analysis to examine the cause-effect relationship between the variables (alpha alpha = 0.05). Results: A total of 1057 healthcare professionals participated; average age 38.98 +/- 9.044 (min = 19; max = 71), 71.7% (n n = 758) women, 69.9% (n n = 739) physicians. Of the respondents, 48.3% wanted to be vaccinated whether the vaccine was free or not, 12.1% (n n = 128) did not want to be vaccinated and 36.8% were not decided. The most common reasons for wanting to be vaccinated were to end the pandemic (25%, n = 264), seeing vaccination as a good way to prevent COVID-19 disease (30.1%, n = 318), protecting oneself and high-risk individuals from infection (22.2%, n = 235), and hoping that vaccine would reduce the duration and severity of disease (22.9%, n = 242). The most common reasons for not wanting to be vaccinated were fear of side-effects (26.1%, n = 276) and lack of confidence in the reliability of a new vaccine (27.2%, n = 288). The desire to be vaccinated had relationship with influenza vaccination, pneumococcus vaccination, history of COVID-19 infection or contact with a COVID-19 patient, and adherence to infection prevention measures (P P < 0.05). Conclusion: Almost half of the healthcare workers in this study were not decided about being vaccinated. To increase acceptance in T & uuml;rkiye, it is essential to conduct COVID-19 vaccine awareness and education among healthcare professionals because they are perceived as role models in the society, particularly in the health sector.Öğe Evaluation of Knowledge of Traditional and Complementary Medicine of Medical School Students(Duzce Univ, 2018) Sonmez, Cemil Isik; Baser, Duygu Ayhan; Kucukdag, Huseyin N.; Kayar, Okan; Acar, Idris; Guner, Pinar DonerObjective: Nowadays, many individuals in the community apply complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for treatment purposes, protective purposes as well as culturally traditional purposes. It is necessary that the physicians who are primarily responsible for the prevention of human health, should be substantially practitioners of traditional and complementary medicine as well as modern medicine. We aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of medical faculty students about CAM practices in this study. Therefore study is planned to contribute to the organising of CAM in the curriculum of medical education. Methods: This descriptive study was carried out between April 2018 and June 2018. Students of Term I, II, III, IV, V and VI of Diizce University Faculty of Medicine were included to the study. A questionnaire with 22 questions was administered to 276 volunteer students (183 female, 93 male) except unreacheable and non-volunteer students by internet. Results: The most commonly known CAM methods among the medical faculty students; acupuncture (77.5%), cup application (75.3%), phytotherapy (67.3%); the most commonly used methods are phytotherapy (33,3%) and cup method (11,5%). When questioned about the information source of CAM; 31.8% (n: 85) had learned information regarding CAM at the medical school education. And 94.2% (n = 242) of students thought that there was not enough education regarding practice of CAM at the medical faculties. 82.6% of the participants (n: 218) believed that CAM practice should be integrated into modern medicine and performed by physicians. Conclusion: In our study, medical faculty students' knowledge levels about CAM practices were not sufficient and they mostly had not been learned at the medical faculty. But it was determined that the students want this information to be included in medical education and to be used as integrated with modern medicine. Gap about this subjects will be filled with arrangements which will be made in the medical faculty curriculum and CAM trainings for both community and medical students.Öğe The experiences and thoughts of Turkish family physicians about COVID-19 pandemic: A qualitative study(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Baser, Duygu Ayhan; Guner, Pinar Doner; Gumustakim, Raziye Sule; Agadayi, Ezgi; Aksoy, Hilal; Fidanci, IzzetBackgroundEfforts to contain the SARS-CoV-2 virus would fall short without strong primary health care.ObjectivesIn this study, we aimed to determine the experiences, views and suggestions of family physicians regarding their roles, primary care health systems' preparedness and the challenges/needs for a better organisation during the pandemic via in-depth exploration.MethodsTwenty-one family physicians working in different cities of Turkey participated in semi-structured interviews between 15/08/2020-21/01/2021. Convenience sampling was used. We did this qualitative study through interviews by telephone. Participants were asked seven open-ended questions. Thematic analysis was used, which included reading the transcript, identifying significant phrases and formulating meanings and validating meanings through research team discussions to reach consensus, identifying themes.ResultsTen of the participants were female and the average age of the participants was 39.5 (SD = 10.5) years. Twelve of the family physicians are specialists in family medicine. Four themes were identified: role of primary care in the pandemic, pandemic preparedness of primary care, challenges of working in primary care centres during the COVID-19 pandemics, and approaches to future pandemics.ConclusionOur study showed that, despite unprepared primary care and undefined roles of family physicians in pandemic planning, family physicians played a significant role in pandemic management.Öğe Mustafa Kemal University Students' Use of Mobile Health Applications(Duzce Univ, 2018) Guner, Pinar Doner; Bolukbasi, Hande; Kokacya, Sumeyya Havva; Yengil, Erhan; Ozer, CahitObjective: In this study it is aimed to determine the prevalence of how university students mobile health applications usage. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with Mustafa Kemal University students between December 2017 and February 2018. This can contribute to the regulation of individuals' lifestyles, diets and exercises. It is thought that frequent use of mobile health practices by patients who are offered lifestyle modification will increase treatment compliance.Öğe Nasal Staphylococcus Colonization in Nursing Home Residents and Antibiotic Resistance Profiles(Galenos Publ House, 2022) Guneri, Cansu Onlen; Guner, Pinar Doner; Aslantas, OzkanIntroduction: Staphylococci are microorganisms that are resistant to many antibiotics. Staphylococcus epidermidis is a normal flora bacterium that has recently emerged as a nosocomial pathogen and has become a worldwide issue. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of coagulase negative staphylococci, Staphylococcus aureus nasal carriage, and antibiotic resistance of these bacteria in nursing home residents.Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in July 2017. Forty-six samples obtained from the nasal mucosa of the participants were cultured. The species identification was done by MALDI-TOF-MS. Disk diffusion was applied to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of isolates, and polymerase chain reaction assay was employed to identify the known antimicrobial resistance genes. Results: Staphylococci were isolated from 28 (61%) of the 46 residents. The isolates (n=29) were S. epidermidis (n=22), Staphylococcus succinus (n=4), and S. aureus (n=3). Two different strains of S. epidermidis were isolated from one participant. While methicillin-resistant S. aureus was not identified in isolates; Methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis (MRSE) was found in 43% (n=12). In addition, 68% of S. epidermidis strains were multidrug resistant (MDR) (to at least one agent in three or more antimicrobial groups other than beta-lactams). All methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis (MRSE) isolates were mecA positive. Among the MRSE isolates (n=12), the following resistance genes were found: blaZ (n=5), lnuA (n=1),tetK(n=1), ermA (n=1), aac(6')/aph(2) (n=1), and ant(4')-Ia (n=1).Conclusion: To our knowledge, multi-drug resistant MRSE was detected in nursing home residents for the first time in Turkey with this study. This result suggests that S. epidermidis could serve as a reservoir of drug resistance by persistent colonization in the nasal mucosa. Observation and molecular surveillance could be applied to limit the spread of such resistant nosocomial pathogens.Öğe Occupational fatigue and pandemics: Letter to the Editor(Wiley, 2023) Aksoy, Hilal; Guner, Pinar Doner; Baser, Duygu Ayhan[Abstract Not Available]
