Öğe Assessment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease awareness in university students(2022) Katayıfçı, Nihan; Hüzmeli, İrem; Dıkmen, Nursel; Yucekaya, BircanObjective: The study was aimed to identify the awareness of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma among university students and to compare awareness of COPD and asthma at the faculty of health science and education. Method: The universe of this cross-sectional observational study was students at Faculty of Health Science and Education in Hatay Mustafa Kemal University. Students divided into two groups (Group I: 317 Faculty of Health Science students, and Group II: 308 Faculty of Education students). TC Ministry of Health Chronic Airway Diseases Prevention Control Program Asthma-COPD Awareness Questionnaire Form was applied to volunteer face to face or via the internet. Results: Correct answers about COPD awareness were approximately above 70% except for questions: “Is COPD a treatable disease?” and “What test is required for the diagnosis of COPD?”. Correct answers about asthma awareness were approximately above 60% except for questions “Are asthma medications addictive?” and “Is asthma a disease that can be cured completely?”. The questions about awareness of COPD and asthma were answered more correctly in Group I more than in Group II except for questions: “In which age group is COPD most common” and “Are asthma medications addictive?” (p<0.05). Conclusion: COPD and asthma awareness was greater in students from the health sciences faculty than those from the education faculty. However, the university students showed an inadequate knowledge of the diagnosis and management of COPD and the medication and management of asthma. It is thought that providing education and awareness about chronic respiratory diseases to all university students will facilitate disease managementÖğe COMPARISON OF FUNCTIONAL EXERCISE CAPACITY, PERIPHERAL MUSCLE STRENGTH, DYSPNEA AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH PSORIASIS AND HEALTHY CONTROLS: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY(2023) Katayıfçı, Nihan; Hüzmeli, İrem; Abay, Büşra; Doğramacı, Asena ÇiğdemObjective: This study was aimed to compare the functional exercise capacity, upper and lower extremity muscle strength, dyspnea, fatigue, quality of life (QoL), level of physical activity (PA), and cardiovascular diseases knowledge level in patients with psoriasis and healthy individuals. Method: Thirty-six patients and 36 healthy controls were included in the study. The functional exercise capacity [6 minutes walking test (6-MWT)], upper and lower extremity muscle strength (Dynamometer), dyspnea severity [Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea scale (MMRC)], fatigue severity [Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS)], QoL [The Short Form 36 questionnaire (SF-36)], PA [The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ)], cardiovascular diseases knowledge level [Risk Factors in Cardiovascular Disease Knowledge Level (CARRF-KL)scale], and disease severity [Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI)] of the individuals were evaluated. Results: Demographic characteristics were similar in patients [49(38.50-58) years, 16M/20F] and healthy controls [51(46.25-55) y, 23M/13F] (p>0.05). The 6-MWT distance, upper and lower extremity muscle strength, SF-36 subscales, IPAQ, and CARRF-KL scores were significantly lower; FSS and MMRC scores were higher in patients than controls (p<0.05). Conclusion: Patients with psoriasis had decreased functional exercise capacity, upper and lower extremity muscle strength, increased perception of fatigue and dyspnea, reduced PA level, QoL, and cardiovascular diseases knowledge level compared with healthy controls. Patients with psoriasis should be directed to cardiac rehabilitation programs.Öğe DETERMINING FACTORS AFFECTING OF THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVEL OF OLDER ADULTS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC(2023) Uysal, Halil Hakan; Hüzmeli, İrem; Yılmaz, Yurdagül; Demir, Mustafa Batuhan; Hüzmeli, Esra Doğru; Çavlak, UğurObjective: Social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected the physical and psychological conditions of the elderly. This study was planned to determine the factors affecting the physical activities of elderly individuals living in Turkey. Method: In this study, frailty level (Fragility Scale), depressive symptoms (Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS]), physical activity level (PASE Questionnaire), kinesiophobia (TAMPA Scale), and anxiety (Beck Anxiety Scale) of elderly individuals were evaluated by a structured Google survey. Regression analysis was used to determine the factors affecting the level of physical activity. Results: While 52% of the participants (28% male; 72% female; mean age: 69.34±15.03 years) stated that they were less physically active, 93% stated that their social participation decreased during the pandemic process. The mean physical activity score was 89.12±55.33 (the highest score was calculated for indoor activities: 32.00±21.34; the lowest score was calculated for work-related activities: 2.10±6.33). Kinesiophobia score was 41.44±7.39. Approximately half of the participants were in the category of “guarantees a comprehensive assessment for depression”, while 18% were in the category of “suggesting depression” and 30% were in the category of “no depression” (GDS mean score: 14.41±6.01). In addition, it was determined that 29% of the elderly had severe anxiety, 25% had moderate anxiety, and 24% had mild anxiety. The mean frailty score was 2.09±1.69 (normal 19%; pre-fragile 53%; frail 28%). According to univariate linear regression analysis and multiple regression analysis, the most factors affecting the level of physical activity were age, BMI score, fear of movement and fragility. Conclusion: The results obtained from this study showed that the physical activity level of the elderly decreased in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, increasing age, BMI score, kinesiophobia and fragility caused a decrease in the physical activity level of the elderly. These findings suggest that health policy makers and health care providers should organize appropriate care plans for the elderly after the pandemic period.Öğe The effects of dry needling on respiratory parameters in a patient with medium severity(İnönü Üniversitesi, 2019) Gökçek, Özden; Hüzmeli, İremCOPD is expected to be third leading cause of death by 2030. We aimed to investigate effectiveness of dry needling in a patient with medium severity COPD in addition to respiration and posture exercises in relation to respiratory capacity. Case report: Demographic information was gathered from patient along with his smoking history. Respiratory function, posture, muscle shortness, muscle strength, respiration, chest circumference, distance between thyroid cartilage and sternum, six-minute walking test were all recorded. Dyspnea was assessed according to modified Borg scale. Every two days, patient was given dry needling treatment and respiratory exercises, along with ten sessions of posture and stretching exercises. We found differences in FEV1/FVC values, saturation distance between thyroid and sternal notch, number of pushups and dyspnea. Patient complaints decreased. We believe further study is required to ascertain effectiveness of dry needling method for quality of life and respiratory problems in patients with COPD.Öğe Evaluation of cardiorespiratory state in patients with cerebral palsy(İnönü Üniversitesi, 2019) El, Çiğdem; Hüzmeli, İrem; Doğru Hüzmeli, Esra; Duman, FatmaAim: The objective of this study is to compare the cardiorespiratory state of individuals with hemiparetic cerebral palsy and healthy individuals. Material and Methods: The demographic information of 40 individuals were evaluated. Then their body mass index and frequency and duration of physiotherapy were questioned. Gross motor skill levels with the Gross Motor Classification System (GMCS), flexibility with the sit and reach test, cardiorespiratory endurance with the 6-minute walking test and independence in daily life activities with the WeeFIM survey were evaluated. Oxygen saturation, respiration frequency and heart rate were recorded before and after evaluation. Results: 20 individuals with hemiparetic cerebral palsy (%55 female, %45 male) (with an age average of 9.7± 1.94) and 20 individuals as the control group (%65 female, %35 male) (with an age average of 9.1± 1.83) were included in the study. According to the sixminute test analysis, no important variety was observed between the two groups in terms with regard oxygen saturation, respiration frequency and heart rate parameters prior to and after the test (p>0.05). A statistically significant difference was observed between the patient and control groups in terms of walking distance (p=0.001) and the WeeFIM total score (p= 0.001) and flexibility test (p=0.001). Conclusion: Remarkably, walking distance, WeeFIM total score and flexibility test in patients with cerebral palsy can give an idea about prognosis and the adverse effects of disease in early period on patients’ physical, psychological and social development.Öğe Investigation of long-term fall prevalence after total knee arthroplasty in Hatay: A cross-sectional study(Ondokuz Mayis Universitesi, 2022) Davut, Serkan; Hallaçeli, Hasan; Hüzmeli, İremFalls and fractures caused by falls in the elderly affect their daily activities, creating fear of movement and alienating the individual from social participation. Fall related-injuries are some of the main afraid complications after total knee arthroplasty surgery. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of falling and fear of movement in the long period (one year and more after surgery) in patients who had total knee arthroplasty surgery. Patients who had total knee arthroplasty surgery in Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology between 01.01.2016 and 01.10.2020 enrolled in the study. Demographic information was recorded from the patient file or asked to the patients/caregivers via telemedicine. The falls before the surgery, falls after the surgery within 3 months, within 3 to 6 months, within 6 to 12 months which caregiver/relative’s remember recorded via telemedicine. Fear of movement assessed with the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale was asked. 149 Patients with, mean age 67.06±8.72 years, female (85.9%), mostly house wives (80.5%) was the cohort. Their education time (89.8 %) were less than 5 years, and the huge majority of the patients did not have exercise habits (83.2%). The fall rate before the surgery was (35.6%), after the surgery was (36.9%), within the first 3 months (6.7%), 3 to 6 months (6%) and 6 to 12 months (11.7%). 7. 4 % of our patients had a fall related-fractures including: 2 radius distal fractures (1.3%), 3 hip fractures (2%), 3 periprosthetic fractures (2%), 1 patella fracture (0. 7%) and 2 vertebral compression fractures (1.3%). Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale score was 41(38-44). There was a positive correlation between kinesiofobia and those who did not have exercise habits and those who fell preoperatively (r: 0.31, p:0.01). Some of TKA patients were falling and had fear of movement. New researches should be conducted about what is the reason that makes the patients posture and movement more stable or which mechanism alters the balance. In order to prevent complications that may occur due to falls, new studies, treatment modalities and rehabilitation programs focusing on the etiology of falling in the elderly individuals should be organized. © 2022 Ondokuz Mayis Universitesi.
