Öğe Analysis of Six Orthodontic Journals in Science Citation Index and Science Citation Index Expanded: A Bibliometric Analysis(Aves Press Ltd, 2018) Bilgic, Fundagul; Kucuk, Eyup Burak; Sozer, Ozlem Akinci; Ay, Yazgi; Kaya, Abdullah; Kaptac, MuratObjective: To analyze the article type, origin, main affiliation, number of publications, authors, and affiliations of six orthodontic journals during two intervals of 5 years each (2006-2010 and 2011-2015). Methods: In total, 4879 articles examined in this study were screened online at the individual journal's website. The types of articles and their authorship characteristics in the six orthodontic journals [three journals indexed by Science Citation Index (SCI) and the others indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)] were recorded. Parameters were tested using the Pearson chi-square for independence at a 0.05 level of significance. Results: Among all the article types, research articles were the most published in the orthodontic journals indexed by SCI and SCIE in the first (2006-2010; 88.1% and 77.6%, respectively) and second periods (2011-2015; 84.4% and 74.6%, respectively). In the first and second intervals, the European Union was the most common origin among articles accepted by the journals listed in SCI (30.1% and 29.2% respectively), whereas Asia/Oceania was the common origin among articles accepted by the journals listed in SCIE (44.1% and 43.4%, respectively). Conclusion: The articles published in the orthodontics journals listed under SCI and SCIE for 2006-2010 and 2011-2015 were significantly different in terms of numbers and characteristics.Öğe Comparison of Enamel Discoloration using Flash-Free and Conventional Adhesive Brackets with Different Finishing Protocols(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Kaya, Abdullah; Zortuk, Fundagul BilgicObjective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of flash-free and conventional adhesive brackets and different finishing techniques on enamel discoloration. Methods: Forty human premolar teeth were utilized and randomly divided into four groups based on the type of brackets and finishing technique: (1) Gemini((R)) brackets were used for orthodontic bonding. After debanding, adhesive remnants were cleaned using a 12-blade tungsten carbide bur. (2) Gemini((R)) suspenders were used for orthodontic bonding. After debanding the brackets, adhesive remnants were cleaned using12-blade APC(TM) Flash-Free brackets were used for orthodontic bonding. After debanding, adhesive remnants were cleaned a 12-blade tungsten carbide bur and polished with Sof-Lex disks. (4) APC(TM) Flash-Free brackets were used for orthodontic bonding. After debanding, the adhesive remnants were cleaned using a 12-blade tungsten carbide bur. A Vita Easyshade spectrophotometer was used to measure the color change values of the 40 teeth. Results: The color change of the enamel surface in the Flash Free bracket group was significantly less than that in the conventional groups (p=0.003 p < 0.05). The mean.E values obtained from the Sof-Lex groups were lower than those obtained from the groups without Sof-Lex, but these results were not statistically significant (p=0.280 p > 0.05). Conclusion: It is recommended to use Flash-Free brackets and polish with Sof-Lex disk following the clean-up procedures to minimize the possibility of discoloration of the teeth during orthodontic treatment.Öğe Effects of Rhinoplasty on Smile Esthetic and Gingival Appearance(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2020) Arli, Cengiz; Bilgic, Fundagul; Kaya, Abdullah; Arpag, Osman FatihRhinoplasty alone or combined with septoplasty is one of the cornerstone management techniques in facial esthetic surgery. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of rhinoplasty maneuvers on facial and smile esthetics. The study included a total of 27 adult patients. Measurements of gingival length (GL), right and left maxillary incisor-upper lip distance (MIULD), right and left inter-lip distance (ILD), and right and left gingival pocket depth (GPD) were performed and rounded to the nearest millimeter in full smile and at rest. All measurements were obtained at baseline and at the postoperative 1st and 6th months by the same clinician. As compared with the baseline values, significant decreases were determined in the left and right GLs in full smile, left and right MIULD, and left ILD at the postoperative 1st month and in the GL, left and right MIULD, and left and right ILD at the postoperative 6th month. In conclusion, rhinoplasty maneuvers can improve smile esthetics by changing the GL thereby increase patient satisfaction.Öğe Farklı braket sistemleri ve bitirme prosedürlerinin mine renklenmesi ile ilişkisinin değerlendirilmesi(Hatay Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi, 2020) Kaya, Abdullah; Zortuk, Fundagül Bi̇lgi̇çGiriş ve Amaç: Sabit ortodontik tedavinin planlanmasına göre veya klinisyenin tercihine göre farklı braket sistemleri kullanılabilmektedir. Braketlerin tedavi süresince diş yüzeyinde kalması dişlerde renklenme problemleri oluşturabilmektedir. Ortodontik tedavi sonrası diş renkleşmesi tedavinin kalitesi ve hasta memnuniyeti açısından önemli bir kriterdir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, iki farklı braket sistemi ile bitirme tekniğinin diş renklenmesi üzerine etkilerinin karşılaştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada 40 adet insan premolar dişi kullanılmıştır. Dişler rastgele dört ayrı gruba ayrılmış olup her bir grupta 10 adet diş bulunmaktadır. Gemini braket – tungsten karbid frez grubu (1. Grup), Gemini braket – tungsten karbid frez, Sof-lex disk grubu (2. Grup), Flash Free braket – tungsten karbid frez grubu (3. Grup), Flash Free braket – tungsten karbid frez, Sof-lex disk grubu (4. Grup) deney gruplarıdır. Dört gruptaki toplam 40 dişin başlangıç ve final renk ölçümleri Vita Easyshade spektrofotometre renk ölçüm cihazı aracılığı ile yapılmıştır. Tabanı adezivle kaplı Flash Free braketler ile 3m Gemini konvansiyonel braketler, 3m Transbond XT ile diş yüzeylerine yapıştırılmıştır. Ağız içi çevreyi bir yıl simule edecek şekilde, bütün dişler 10 bin siklus, 5 °C ve 55 °C arasında termal siklusa tabi tutulmuştur. Braketlerin sökülmesinden sonra gruplara göre dişler üzerindeki yapıştırıcı artıkları tungsten karbid veya tungsten karbid-Sof-lex bitirme teknikleri ile temizlenmiştir. Dişlere final renk ölçümü yapılıp, ∆E = [(∆L)2 + (∆a)2 + (∆b)2]1/2= [(Ls-Lö)2 + (as-aö)2 + (bs-bö)2]1/2 formülü yardımı ile klinik renk değişikliği hesaplanmıştır. Verilerin dağılım normalliği Kolmogorov Smirnov testi ile ölçülürken, mine renklenmesi üzerine etki eden faktörlerin analizi ise iki yönlü varyans analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir (p˂0,05). Gruplar arasındaki ΔE değerleri arasındaki fark Tukey çoklu karşılaştırma testi kullanılarak p˂0,05 anlamlılık düzeyinde tespit edilmiştir. Bulgular: Flash Free braket sisteminin kullanıldığı gruplarda meydana gelen mine yüzeyindeki renk değişiminin, Gemini braket sisteminin kullanıldığı gruplarda meydana gelen renk değişiminden anlamlı olarak daha az olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p;0,003 p˂0,05). Sof-lex kullanılan gruplardan elde edilen renk değişikliği değerlerinin (ΔE), sof-lex kullanılmayan gruplardan daha düşük olduğu, fakat bu sonuçların istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olmadığı görülmüştür (p;0,280 p>0,05). Sonuç: Yaptığımız bu in vitro çalışma neticesinde, kullanmış olduğumuz her iki braket sisteminin ve bitirme tekniğinin mine yüzeyinde renklenme meydana getirdiği tespit edilmiştir. Tungsten karbid frez ile adeziv artıklarının temizlendiği dişler, tungsten karbid, sof-lex ile adeziv artıklarının temizlendiği dişlere göre daha fazla renk değişikliğine uğramıştır. Sof-lex disk kullanımının tüm gruplarda daha az renk değişikliğine sebebiyet verdiği görülmüştür. Bitirme protokollerinden bağımsız olarak, Flash Free braket sisteminin, Gemini braket sistemine göre dişler üzerinde daha az renk değişikliğine sebep olduğu görülmüştür.Öğe Investigation of free radical scavenging enzyme activities and lipid peroxidation in liver tissue of zinc deficient rats(Asian Journal Of Chemistry, 2008) Kaya, Hasan; Taysi, Seyithan; Kaya, Abdullah; Boyuk, Abdullah; Dursun, Hakan; Islamoglu, Yahya; Tastekin, DidemThe aim of this study was to evaluate the lipid peroxidation and free radical scavenging enzyme activities in liver tissue of zinc (Zn)-deficient rats and investigate relationship among these parameters in either group. 16 Male rats with a weight of 35-40 g were used for the experiment. The rats were divided into control (n = 8) and Zn-deficient groups. After 4 weeks of feeding, the rats were killed by cervical dislocation and liver tissues were removed. Biochemical measurements in liver tissue were carried out using a spectrophotometer. Catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, glutathione S transferase activities, total (enzymatic plus non-enzymatic) superoxide scavenger activity, superoxide dismutase, non-enzymatic superoxide scavenger activity, superoxide dismutase activities and Zn level in the Zn-deficient group were significantly lower than those of the control group, whereas malondialdehyde level was significantly higher than those of the control group. Slightly increased non-enzymatic superoxide scavenger activity was not significantly different from the controls. The results obtained in this study demonstrate that Zn-deficiency causes a decrease in antioxidant defence system and an increase in oxidative stress in liver tissue in rats.
