    Use of topical therapies during pregnancy and the postpartum period

    Treatment selection choices during pregnancy should be based on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) risk categories. The FDA categorized drugs as A, B, C, D, and X based on animal and human studies. Category D and category X drugs should be avoided during pregnancy, whereas category A and category B drugs are safe to use.
