Öğe Multi-scale electromagnetic band gap structures and antenna applications(2011) Ozdemir, E.; Sabah, C.Multi-scale rectangular mushroom structure, high impedance ground plane (HIGP), is designed to achieve large band gap. By suppressing surface waves, the structure becomes eligible for antenna applications. The HIGP's are composed of three different sized rectangular patch mushroom elements for different resonance frequencies. The characterizations of the three scaled HIGP with varying all dimensions are observed for GHz frequency range. Some antenna designs for free space application and the effect of the multi-scale HIGP on these antennas are also presented. © 2011 IEEE.Öğe Optimization of elliptically designed patch mushrooms and investigation of low profile dipole antenna - HIGP interaction(Natl Inst Optoelectronics, 2010) Unal, E.; Karaaslan, M.; Ozdemir, E.In this study, we investigate high impedance ground plane structures consist of elliptic metallic mushrooms. In this structure gaps and metallic patch dimensions have an effect on electromagnetic band gap is observed. It is shown that elliptic mushrooms can show much better performance compared to its conventional counterpart such as perfectly electric conductor. Good return loss in the EBG frequency range for HIGP-low profile dipole antenna is obtained. Miniaturized and improved antenna system is satisfied by this new elliptic mushrooms.Öğe Plug plant technique for early fruit production of strawberry in Turkey(International Society for Horticultural Science, 2004) Kaska, N.; Ozdemir, E.The results of several experiments with fresh runner plants rooted in pots or small containers (FRRP) with depth of 9 cm and the diameter 8 cm had shown that early production of strawberry fruits is possible by this technique. The critical point is that, one has to let the runners to root early in April or May and transfer them to the field or walk in tunnels in July or early August. Nowadays the farmers in the Mediterranean coastal areas of Turkey prefer summer plantings with frigo plants (FP). Since the weather in summer months is very hot, percentage of survival rates of these plants are rather low whereas those of the FRRP plants are very high (if not 100%). In addition, from these plants one can get fruits from November to May continuously. However, the peak season is April. Total yield/plant is almost equal to that of frigo plant.
