Öğe Effects of nitrogen rates and cutting times on the essential oil yield and components of Origanum syriacum L. var. bevanii(2006) Ozguven, Mensure; Ayanoglu, Filliz; Ozel, AbdulhabibOriganum syriacum L. var. bevanii, a species that grows naturally in Turkey, has been investigated under the ecological conditions of the Eastern Mediterranean part of Turkey for three years. This study was conducted to determine the effects of nitrogen rate (0, 40, 60 and 80 kg N-1 ha) and harvesting time (the pre-blooming, full blooming, and end of blooming) on fresh herb yield, dry herb yield, essential oil content, and essential oil components. The experimental design was a Randomized Complete Block in a split plot arrangement with four replications. The highest herb yield values were obtained in the first year of the experiment. In the following years, decreasing values were observed for all the traits. The highest fresh herb yield (19.86 t ha-1) was obtained at full blooming period with the N rate of 40 kg ha-1. The highest dry herb yield (8.95 t ha-1) was obtained at the end of blooming with the N rate of 40 kg ha-1. The highest essential oil content (6.16%) was obtained in the first year of the experiment harvested at full blooming period with the N rate of 60 kg ha -1. The desirable carvacrol, p-cymol and ?-terpinen rates were obtained at 40 and 60 kg ha-1 N application with the cutting performed at the full blooming stage. © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
