Öğe Evaluation of spermatological parameters of mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio) during spawning season(Ege Univ, 2006) Bozkurt, Yusuf; Secer, SelcukTen mature male mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio) were used as semen donors. The semen was collected by massaging the abdomens of the fish and sperm volume, spermatozoa motility, duration of movement, spermatozoa density, total spermatozoa density, colour and pH of sperm was evaluated. During spawning season mean (+/- sd) volume (ml), motility (%), duration of movement (s), density (x10(9)/ml), total spermatozoa density (x10(9)) and pH were evaluated respectively as follows 2.49 +/- 1.34, 76.50 +/- 12.48, 158 +/- 72.75, 13.67 +/- 1.65, 35.61 +/- 22.26, 7.15 +/- 0.33 in April, 23.27 +/- 13.99, 79.00 +/- 11.73, 684.20 +/- 6.96, 17.93 +/- 5.16, 408.86 +/- 258.03, 7.00 +/- 0.23 in May, 1.10 +/- 0.67, 77.50 +/- 17.98, 239.10 +/- 221.55, 11.97 +/- 1.04, 13.06 +/- 8.06, 7.30 +/- 0.42 in June. Sperm volume, motility, duration of movement, density, total spermatozoa density were found at highest level in the middle of spawning season but sperm pH was slightly declined at the same period of the spawning season.Öğe Relationship between body condition, physiological and biochemical parameters in brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) sperm(2006) Bozkurt, Yusuf; Secer, Selcuk; Bukan, Neslihan; Akcay, Ergun; Tekin, NecmettinThis study investigated the relationships between body condition, seminal plasma composition and physical parameters of Salmo trutta fario in order to find out biomarkers for semen quality. Seminal plasma contained 79.0±15.15 mmol L-1 Na+, 46.8±9.84 mmol L-1 K+, 3.5±0.67 mg dL-1 Ca +4, 3.5±0.80 (mEqL-1 Mg++, 14.8±5.15 mgdl glucose, 3.0±9.42 g dL-1 protein, 19.2±18.57 mg dL-1 cholesterol, 5.4±3.17 mg dL -1 triglyceride and 3.0±9.42 mg dL-1 urea. Semen volume was 3.90±1.48 mL, spermatozoa motility 81.0±10.74%, duration of spermatozoa movement 97.4±15.23 s., spermatozoa density 9432.5±3762.07 ×109 mL-1, total spermatozoa density 35102.4±19137.5 ×109 and semen pH 7.6±0.39. There were significant positive correlations between weight and protein (r=0.752, p<0.05), weight and cholesterol (r = 0.832, p<0.01), length and protein (r = 0.729, p<0.05), length and cholesterol (r = 0.761, p<0.05), volume and cholesterol (r = 0.667, p<0.05), volume and urea (r = 0.753, p<0.05), density and total density (r = 0.704, p<0.05), total density and calcium (r = 0.676, p<0.05), Na+ and K+ (r = 0.822, p<0.01), Mg++ and protein (r = 0.932, p<0.01), protein and cholesterol (r = 0.882, p<0.01), cholesterol and urea (r = 0.885, p<0.01). Significantly negative correlation were found between K+ and pH (r = -0.891, p<0.01), Ca++ and pH (r = -695, p<0.05) and Na+ and urea (r = -0.798, p<0.01). The phenotypic correlation between body weight and length was found highly significant (r = 0.984, p<0.01). © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information.Öğe Relationship between spermatozoa motility, egg size, fecundity and fertilization success in brown trout (Salmo trutta fario)(2006) Bozkurt, Yusuf; Secer, SelcukIn this study, the relationship between spermatozoa motility, egg size, fecundity and fertilization rates were investigated. Sperm and eggs were collected without anesthesia by abdominal massage from brown trout (Salmo trutta fario). Fertilization rates ranged from 35 to 72% and correlated positively with spermatozoa motility (r = 0.333, p>0.05) and egg size (r = 0.749, p<0.05). On the other hand, negative correlation (r = -0.393, p>0.05) was evaluated between fertilization rates and fecundity. Consequently it was determined that increase in spermatozoa motility and egg sizes effect the fertilization success positively in brown trout. © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
