CHANGES IN THE FUTURE TIME PERSPECTIVE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: A COMPARISON OF MEASURES COLLECTED BEFORE AND DURING COVID-19
(Unesp-Faculdade Ciencias & Letras, 2022) Ustun, Umit Dogan; Aykin, Alparslan Gazi
The Covid-19 Pandemic negatively affected education systems around the world and, to control its spread, countries and state governments started the closure of schools and colleges. The closure of universities had various effects on students' learning and plans for the future. The present study aimed to examine the differences of university students' future time perspective between the measurements taken before and during Covid-19. The study was designed as a longitudinal study and 80 university students from the school of physical education and sports of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University consisted of the study sample. The pre-test and post-test data were collected with the Turkish version of Husman and Shell's (2008) Future Time Perspective Scale. Paired samples t-test was used to analyze the differences between the pre-test and post-test scores. According to analyzed results, post-test results significantly increased in connectedness factor for males and valence factor for females.

The effect of the combined self-talk and mental imagery program on the badminton motor skills and self-confidence of youth beginner student-athletes
(Springernature, 2023) Hidayat, Yusuf; Yudiana, Yunyun; Hambali, Burhan; Sultoni, Kuston; Ustun, Umit Dogan; Singnoy, Chatkamon
BackgroundThe psychological strategies of self-talk (S.T.) and mental imagery (MI) have an essential role in training and sports performance, but their implementation, particularly in combination, is still limited. This study aimed to examine badminton motor skills (BMS) and self-confidence (S.C.) mastery after a psychological strategy intervention of S.T. and MI, which were integrated into the BMS training process in both independent and interactive functions. The S.T. strategy consisted of instructional (I-S.T.) and motivational (M-S.T.) functions, while the MI consisted of cognitive (C-MI) and motivational (M-MI) aspects.MethodsEighty youth beginner badminton student-athletes aged 10-12 years (male = 40, female = 40) were divided through a disproportional stratified sampling into four experimental groups (EG: 2-function S.T. x 2-function MI) and one control group (CG). The intervention program lasted eight weeks (three meetings a week for a total of 24 meetings). The participants completed a fidelity check at each session. At the end of the intervention, they took a BMS test and completed a self-confidence scale.ResultsThe S.T. and MI strategies had a significant effect on BMS and S.C. mastery (independent and interaction functions) in multivariate and univariate ways; however, independently, they had no significant effect on S.C. The effect of I-S.T. > M-S.T. and the effect of C-MI > M-MI on BMS, but there was no difference in S.C. In the I-S.T. condition, the C-MI and M-MI strategies did not have a different interaction effect on BMS mastery, but the effect of M-MI > C-MI on S.C. In the M-S.T. condition, the effect of C-MI > M-MI on the BMS and S.C. mastery. In the C-MI condition, the I-S.T. and M-S.T. strategies did not have a different interaction effect on BMS mastery, but the effect of M-S.T. > I-ST on S.C. In the M-MI condition, the effect of I-S.T. > M-S.T. on the BMS and S.C. mastery.ConclusionThe results of this study contribute to the existing evidence on the effectiveness of S.T. and MI strategies in the motor skill mastery and psychological skill development of beginner student-athletes. Thus, S.T. and MI strategies can be adapted as psychological strategies that coaches and physical educators can use to improve beginner student-athlete learning, sports performance, and psychological skills.

Fear of Covid-19: Associations with Trait Anxiety and Life Satisfaction
(Lahore Medical & Dental Coll, 2021) Isik, Utku; Ustun, Neslisah Aktas; Tastan, Pelin; Ustun, Umit Dogan
Aim: Present study aimed to analyze perceived fear of COVID-19 among Turkish people and investigate its associations with trait anxiety and life satisfaction. Methods: The online snowball research sampling method was used to collect data, and 1129 subjects participated in the study. As data collection tools, the Fear of COVID-19 scale, Trait Anxiety Scale, and Satisfaction with Life Scale were used. In the adaptation and validation process of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale, confirmatory factor analysis was applied. Convergent validity of the model resulting from CFA was evaluated with Average Variance Extracted (AVE) and Composite Reliability (CR) based on the factor load values. The reliability of the scale was assessed with Cronbach's alpha method. Independent samples t-test and Two-Way ANOVA analysis were used to compare the differences in the perception of fear of COVID-19, trait anxiety and life satisfaction. Multiple regression was applied to predict anxiety based on fear of COVID-19 and life satisfaction. Results: Analyze results confirmed the unidimensionality of the 7-item scale on a Turkish sample, and the results indicated satisfactory reliability coefficients. According to independent t-test and Two Way Anova results, females, non-athletes, participants with the worry of gaining weight, who did not care about their nutrition, and who followed media news more often scored higher fear of COVID-19 and anxiety. Multiple regression analysis identified a negative correlation between fear of COVID-19 and life satisfaction and a positive correlation with anxiety. Conclusion: Although the present study revealed the associations of the fear of Covid-19 with life satisfaction and anxiety, further research is still recommended to explore these associations in more depth.

Materials and Method: The study was designed as a cross-sectional quantitative study, and 286 university students from Hatay Mustafa Kemal University participated in the study. In analyzes of the data independent samples t-test and Partial Correlation analyzes were used. Results: As a result, this study showed that only self-efficacy makes a difference in the health belief regarding leisure-time physical activity for the athletes. Besides, the health belief regarding leisure-time physical activity and nutritional attitude correlates in both athletic and sedentary samples.
