Özet
The coasts of the Gulf of Iskenderun are intensively industrialized when compared with the Mediterranean coasts of Turkey. Main industries existing in the region are iron and steel complexes, fertilizer, cement, coal fired plants in addition pipe line terminals. In this study, urban air quality in the Gulf of Iskenderun was evaluated on the basis of daily integrated SO2 and smoke contents that are being measured in the city- center of Iskenderun for the period of 1990-1996.Monthly averages were found to be under the long term limits (LTS) and short term limits (STL) of the Turkish air quality protection regulation except January, February, March and October, 1990. Results were discussed for the relationships between some climatic parameters and SO2 and smoke contents of the atmospheric air in Iskenderun city.
