Özet
This study mainly proposes to understand and explain how manual labor is positioned in the value worlds and mindsets of artisans within the economic and social contexts of their lives. First, the ontological and epistemological position and theoretical basis of the study are clarified. Then, some interpretive sociological theories, alienation theory, the sociology of everyday life and values, which constitute the theoretical basis, are discussed. Afterwards, a literature review on the concepts of craft and craftsmanship and the concepts of labor, time, and experience are also included. Following the methodology discussion, findings are evaluated. According to field data, although the inherent characteristics of craftsmanship have exacerbated the profession's standing in the current trade worsened, these characteristics are actually points of moral/cultural resistance for the survival of craftsmanship. Shared opinions amongst artisans still abound, such as prioritizing human relations over economic gains, re-directing a customer to a more suitable artisan, and acting with the belief in the sanctity of manual labor. However, the incidences of unpaid manual labor in the market causes the masters to leave the profession or if they do remain, they choice taking offense to society.
