Theoretical approaches that analyze the voting behavior of individuals can be divided into two main categories; social structure-oriented theories and individual-oriented theories. This, study aims to show that the voting behavior of a percentage of Turkish voters does not comply with the assertions of individual-oriented theories, the most well-known of which is rational-choice. In this context, it was found that in Antakya, the central district of the Hatay province, voters' behavior was determined by the socialization process shaped by social cleavages arising from religious sects. This conclusion hits been reached by analyzing the results of general elections held between 1961 and 2007 in neighborhoods of Antakya.en_US
