Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate whether neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR) levels are elevated in patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis(RAS). Moreover, we aimed to find out whether there is a correlation between NLR levels and oral ulcer activity. Material and Method: The study group consisted of 35 subjects with RAS and 35 age and sex matched control subjects. The examination of the subjects included a detailed history, general physical examination and assessment of laboratory blood parameters. Results: The mean NLR values were 2.05 +/- 0.63 in RAS group and 1.34 +/- 0.48 in the control group. The mean NLR values in the patients with RAS were significantly higher than the control group (p = 0.0001). Moreover, there was positive correlation between NLR values and oral ulcer activity (r = 0.586, p= 0.0001). Discussion: There is no previous study that investigated the relationship between NLR and RAS in the literature. NLR should be taken into account as quick, cheap, easily measurable, new inflammatory marker, instead of other acute-phase proteins.en_US
