The effects of rootstocks and training systems on the 'Round Seedless' grape were evaluated for several quality characteristics. The trial was conducted in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 in the Mediterranean region of Turkey, which has a subtropical climate. The experimental plots were planted in 1997 with grafted vines. 'Round Seedless' vines grown on 6 rootstocks (41B, 1616C, 1613C, 110R, Rupestris du Lot, 140Ru) were trained on two different trellis systems (Australia and Lenz Moser). No significant differences in vegetative growth, compatibility constant or yield per vine were found between the training systems. The cluster and berry properties and the acid and pH contents of the juice were similar for both training systems. The 110R and 1613C rootstocks yielded higher values for the cluster properties than the other rootstocks, whereas the 110R rootstock yielded higher values for the berry properties than the other rootstocks. The effects of the rootstocks on the acidity and pH of the juice and on the TSS/acidity value were not statistically significant. No significant differences in pruning weight were found among the rootstocks. The highest yield values among the rootstocks were shown by 110R (5.88 kg vine(-1)) and 41B (5.65 kg vine(-1)). No significant influence of the training systems was observed. 'Round Seedless' grapes grafted on 110R produced the highest yield and good fruit quality.en_US
