Abstract
Nusayrîes or Arab Alawies living in Hatay region have somewhat more isolated and more secret way of life compared with other ethnic groups. Nusayrîes have so far maintained a closed social life rather than in "secrecy" , which they consider essential to sustain their traditions and beliefs. Nusayrî belief forms an esoteric Islamic section based on closed communal system and secrecy, where Hz. Ali is deified. The power of khezr belief, shrine practise and reincarnation faith are all functionally interdependent elements accompanied with hypoericy and gloss that constitute Nusayrî belief system. Carried out as a "field work", this study aims to provide information and to discuss therelation between the powerful Khezr belief and the perception od his identity in the Nusayrî belief.
