dc.description.abstract | Gentrification is part of a dynamic that emerges at a certain stage of capitalism - it is the reflection of that dynamic at the urban space level. The act of gentrification first emerged in the 1950s and 60s in cities such as New York and London, and caused long discussions throughout the 80s and 90s due to the dimension of displacement. Since gentrification gathers so many transformation processes under one roof, each component must be evaluated within itself. The concept of gentrification has often been supported by social policies and used as an urban policy tool. According to some thinkers; it has been produced superficially in a way that we can only call physical sheaths without reaching a certain historical and cultural consciousness. These physical sheaths in the spaces we live in as social reality contain the tides between change and stability together. Gentrification has a very complex structure as it is loaded with cultural connotations as well as its economic content, which changes from context to context. In this study, we will consider gentrification in the context of 'displaced' and `substituted' in terms of artistic productions bearing the traces of the past, which are about to be erased by the conscious damage of people to the environment. | en_US |
