Özet
Children's magazines have an important impact on enabling individuals to gain the habit of reading and experience literary pleasure from early ages onwards. It is possible to date children's magazines in Turkey to the Tanzimat Reform Era. Many magazines began their publishing life following the appearance of Mumeyyiz, which was the first children's magazine published in our country. One of these early magazines was Cocuklara Kiraat (Readings for Children). Cocuklara Kiraat was one of the short-lived children's magazines with a publication duration of 18 issues. It was published by Mehmet Ziya in 1881. This study aims at examining this magazine. To this end, the 18 issues making up the whole magazine collection were examined, and the essays in each were grouped and classified according to their contents. At the end of these evaluations, the essays published in the magazine were classified under the titles of moral advice, nature, education, place descriptions, goods, language, translations, stories, poems, riddles, proverbs, and readers' letters. It is possible to say that the essays we will analyze under these titles mostly aim at creating positive behaviors in the age group they address. The basic characteristic of the magazine is instructiveness.
