Özet

Since 2017, inflation in Turkey has reached double figures, and food inflation has occurred at a higher rate than general inflation. For this reason, economic and agricultural authorities have focused on the reasons for the increase in the prices of food and agricultural products, and it has been noted that structural problems in agriculture play a basic and significant role in this increase. Basically, long-term problems have recently begun to show their effects. One of the main reasons for this is the important changes in the support system after 2001, and the ineffectiveness of producers’ organizations in the agricultural markets. Thus, economic organization of producers into a cooperative system is of particular importance at this stage. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to carry out educational activities to change producers’ perceptions of cooperatives, and to take measures to encourage an increase in their effectiveness. This study examined the structural problems causing the price increases in food and agricultural products, and focused in particular on producer organizations which could relieve the problems and disadvantages suffered by small businesses. © 2020 Parlar Scientific Publications.
