Öğe Centaurea ptosimopappa var. elegans Güzel. A New Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) taxon from Türkiye with taxonomical notes on sect. Ptosimopappus and with lectotypification(2022) Güzel, YeldaA new variety of Centaurea (Asteraceae) section Ptosimopappus from the Amanus Mountains, South Anatolia was described. The new taxon is considered as a variety of C. ptosimopappa due to shared morphological characters such as sterile and fertile leathery basal rosettes and branched shrub habit. On the other hand, it differs by achene morphology and by involucre, spinule and cauline leaf sizes as well as other morphological and anatomical differences. Detailed morphological, carpological and microsculptural analyses were carried out in order to reveal the differences between the varieties. Also, Lectotype for C. ptosimopappa var. ptosimopappa based on isotypes of its basionym Ptosimopappus bracteatus was designated. Taxonomic studies on wild flora elements will not only help us to take a world species inventory, but also contain important clues about the present and future of our cultivars.Öğe COMPARISON OF AERIAL PARTS ESSENTIAL OILS OF PURPLE AND WHITE FLOWERED Vitex agnus-castus (LAMIACEAE) POPULATIONS(Inst. The current systematics of the genus was discussed and the\rexact number of taxa was determined. In light of the molecular and nomenclatural data, it was decided that the genus was represented\raround the world by five species and one hybrid. Considering the molecular studies that have been conducted over the 30 years it was\rconcluded that the species of this genus are typical examples of the concept of cryptic species. The classification and nomenclature of\rsuch genetically different, morphologically similar species should be one of the most current discussion topics of modern systematic\rscience. Capsella is one of the best examples to examine this situation; hence, this feature was discussed herein. It was decided that\rC. thracica and C. × abortiva are conspecific and the correct naming should be C. abortiva (pro hybr.). Lectotype assignments were\rperformed for the names of 5 taxa, mainly C. rubella, C. × abortiva, and C. thracica. Also, the missing type specimen of the Turkish\rendemic C. lycia was found, the lectotype was assigned and it was determined to be a synonym of C. bursa-pastoris. Various errors in\rthe type sample references, especially in the holotype of C. grandiflora, were thus corrected. Their distribution around the world was\rchecked and then corrected, and an identification key is given for the taxa of the genus.Öğe Current nomenclature and systematics of Capsella Medik. with lectotypificationtowards solving the puzzle(Turkiye Klinikleri, 2022) Güzel, YeldaThe taxonomic history of Capsella Medik., one of the genera with the highest phenotypic plasticity, and thus the highest synonym number relative to the recognized species number, was reviewed. Trans- caryophyllene, which has the highest ratio (36.78%), also known as ?-caryophyllene, is a component that is the main constituent of many plants included in the sesquiterpene chemical class. Second main component germacrene-D (19.87%) is also sesquiterpene and detected in the essential oil of many plants. ?-Copaene, humulene, aromadendrene and globulol were the other components detected at ratio of 5.45%, 4.29%, 3.99% and 3.35%, representing 17.08%, respectively. © 2022 Toate drepturile asupra acestei edi?ii sunt rezervate editorilor.Öğe Evaluation of Local Wild Plants, Including Recently Discovered Endemics, as Ornamentals: the EXPO-2021 Hatay, Türkiye Example(2023) Kayıkçı, Samim; Güzel, YeldaThis study was carried out in order to determine the potential of wild plants in an Eastern Mediterranean province, Hatay (Türkiye), as ornamentals. In the light of floristic field studies that the authors have been carrying out in the region for more than ten years, plants that may have ornamental features were identified. Most of these plants were evaluated as ornamental plants within the scope of horticulture EXPO-2021 Hatay. Local endemic plants discovered by the authors in recent years have also been successfully cultivated as ornamental plants and one of them, Scorzonera pacis, was even chosen as the emblem of the event. The preference for exotic, showy species in landscape design is a common trend that is still prevalent around the world and that we witness both in Hatay and throughout Türkiye. However, due to global climate changes and the freshwater crisis, it is now necessary to use local species that are compatible with the existing habitat so they can be cultivated more easily. In addition to the advantage of easy cultivation, choosing local wild plant species for landscape design will contribute to the diversification of agricultural products and to the local economy, as well as to the conservation of endangered species and the local ecological balance. Even very rare local endemic plants can be cultivated and successfully used as ornamentals in foreign habitats, as in the examples of the Turkish endemics Origanum amanum and Tulipa sprengeri. Both species are extremely rare in nature. The former is currently almost only available in European botanical gardens ex situ. The second is a very popular and widespread ornamental plant and, after years of extinction in nature, it was replanted in its natural habitat in Türkiye where it was discovered. Moreover, the economic and ecological advantages of using native flora species instead of foreign ones will give parks and gardens unique identities. Hatay was the province that suffered the greatest destruction in the February 23, 2023 earthquake. We hope that this article, prepared before the earthquake, will guide the reconstruction of the city by suggesting alternative agricultural and economic products.Öğe Hatay’da yetişen Verbascum tripolitanum’un bazı kimyasal ve biyolojik özellikleri(ABADER (Adıyaman Bilimsel Araştırmalar Derneği), 2019) Danahaliloğlu, Hatice; Tekeli, Yener; Güzel, Yeldau çalışmada, Hatay bölgesinde yetişen Verbascum tripolitanum’un antioksidan ve antimikrobiyal özellikleri, yağ asitleri içeriği belirlenmiştir. Some, such as Laurus nobilis and Thymbra spicata, have been gathered extensively from nature due to their significant cultural value. Thymbra spicata has started to be cultivated due to increasing demand with the influence of gastronomy tourism, and has even become one of the important agricultural products of Hatay/Antakya in recent years. This development has increased the economic value of the species while reducing the pressure on its natural populations. This is a successful example of alternative agricultural products traditionally obtained by foraging that may be adapted to agriculture and the local economy. Some plants presented here are used in Antakya’s unique religious and cultural practices, such egg painting plants used by spring fests of various ethnoreligious populations. Thirteen original plant uses that are not mentioned in the literature and are only found in Hatay are presented, such as using Melilotus species as a bread spice, Laser trilobum as a spice in local dishes and Pistacia species as ingredients in za’atar mixtures and the flavoring of the local soup known as “kishk”. The variety of wild plants used as sour sauce and the fact that they were used as an alternative to the tomato sauces that dominate the culinary culture today are interesting in terms of showing the change in culinary culture over time. Hatay was the province that suffered the most destruction in the earthquake of February 6, 2023. We hope that this article, written just before the earthquake, will provide socio-economic guidance in the rebuilding of the city. Some of the people from whom this information was compiled unfortunately lost their lives in the earthquake, and a significant number of them were forced to migrate from the destroyed city. This situation is a striking example of the need to compile ethnobotanical knowledge without losing it.Öğe Transferability of SSR markers from distantly related legumes to Glycyrrhiza species(2014) Erayman, Mustafa; İlhan, Emre; Güzel, Yelda; Eren, Abdil HakanLicorice (Glycyrrhiza spp.) is an important medicinal plant and its distribution of natural habitats has been shrinking day by day due to extensive collection. Genetic diversity identifcation will likely assist in conserving the diferent Glycyrrhiza species. A total of 127 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers from Medicago truncatula Gaertn., Phaseolus vulgaris L., and Cicer arietinum L. were used and 26 of them were amplifed on Glycyrrhiza genomes. Te highest transferability rate (33%) was obtained from M. truncatula markers, while the highest genetic diversity values were obtained in P. vulgaris markers. Te markers BM153 and PV-ag004 from P. vulgaris had the largest polymorphism information content. Te amplifed primers were also used to identify genetic diversity among three Glycyrrhiza species. Te gene diversity values among Glycyrrhiza species appeared to be similar; however, donor species mostly had lower diversity values than those of Glycyrrhiza species. Additionally, the genetic analysis showed that G. favescens Boiss. subsp. favescens is more distantly related to species G. glabra L. var. glandulifera and G. echinata L. Te number of alleles was mostly higher than in the donor species, possibly proposing a multiallelic and/or polyploid structure in Glycyrrhiza species.Öğe Türkiye için yeni bir istilacı yabancı bitki kaydı(2017) Güzel, YeldaCABI (Invasive Species Compendium) ve EPPO (European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization) gibi organizasyonlar tarafından istilacı yabancı ot olarak tanımlanan tropikal kökenli Alternanthera sessilis, Asi Nehri (Hatay) kıyılarında üç popülasyonda tespit edilmiştir.
