AGE AND GROWTH OF BASSAN BARBEL, BARBUS PECTORALIS (ACTINOPTERYGII: CYPRINIFORMES: CYPRINIDAE), UNDER CONDITIONS OF A DAM RESERVOIR
(Wydawnictwo Akad Rolniczej W Szczecinie, 2009) Ozcan, Gulnaz; Balik, Sueleyman
Background. Bassan barbel, Barbus pectoralis Heckel, 1843, is widely distributed in the lakes and river systems of Turkey and its neighbouring countries. Bassan barbel is a fish species of commercial value. The aim of this study was to provide necessary biological features of bassan population from Kemer Reservoir. Materials and Methods. Biological aspects of Bassan barbel were studied based on a total of 206 specimens collected from Kemer Reservoir, during the period December 2004-November 2005. The fish age was determined from scales. Length-weight relation and Fulton's condition factor were used to evaluate fish condition. Results. The fish were from I to 6 year-old. Fork length (FL)-weight (R) relations were estimated as W=0.011 . FL2.980 for all specimens studied. The estimated growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation were: L-infinity=34.8 cm, W-infinity=549.58 g, K=0.168 . year(-1) and t(0)=-1.590 year for all specimens examined. Conclusion. The fish from Kemer Reservoir were characterized by an average growth rate and it was observed that the specimen grew fast during the first two years of life. The reason why bassan barbel had low condition values is probably because the environmental conditions in the reservoir were poor.

The investigation of meat yield of Chondrostoma meandrense Elvira, 1987 in the Kemer Dam Lake
(Ege Univ, 2006) Ozcan, Gulnaz; Balik, Suleyman
In this study, relationship between various organs of the body and meat yield of the Chondrostoma meandrense Elvira, 1987 were investigated based on specimens collected from Kemer Dam Lake, during the period from January 2006 to August 2006. At the end of this study, the following results were obtained: interior organs weight/total body weight 15.63%, head weight/total body weight 11.81%, fins weight/total body weight 1.99% and meat yield 66.95%. Meat yield was determined as 65.43, 67.59, 67.14, 68.32 and 69.62% depending on the II-VI ages in Chondrostoma meandrense respectively. As a result of the determination meat yield increased as the age increased.

Reproductive biology of the common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis Linnaeus, 1758) in Iskenderun Bay (Northeastern Mediterranean Sea)
(Natl Inst Science Communication-Niscair, 2014) Duysak, Onder; Ozcan, Gulnaz; Cek, Sehriban; Tureli, Canan
Morphometric characters and reproductive biology were studied in S. officinalis collected at different seasons from the Iskenderun Bay, Turkey. A total of 2006 specimens (992 female, 1014 male) were sampled from September 2005 to August using a Mediterranean type deep trawl (22 mm mesh size). Mean mantle lengths for female and male were 9.83 +/- 1.66, 9.40 +/- 1.76 cm and the mean weights were 135.78 +/- 6.71g, 115.34 +/- 6.29g, respectively. Sexual maturity lengths were calculated as 12.04 for females and 10.30 cm for males. Mean diameter of eggs was measured as 5.367 +/- 9.12 mm per spawning period. Spermatophore lengths were estimated to range from 2.8 +/- 1.05 to 12.4 +/- 2.11mm. Population consisted of gonochoristic induviduals. Although, sex ratio of Sepia officinalis were not significantly different from the expected 1:1 ratio (p>0.05), a slightly male biased sex ratio was recorded.

SPECIES COMPOSITION OF THE FISH SPECIES IN KEMER RESERVOIR AND AKCAY STREAM, AYDIN, TURKEY
(Univ Zagreb, Fac Agriculture, 2008) Ozcan, Gulnaz; Balik, Suleyman
The study was carried out in Kemer Reservoir and Akcay Stream between December 2004 and June 2006. Fish samples were caught by using gill nets, cast nets and electrofishing. Fifteen species belonging to 6 families were caught during the study. Four species, Acanthobrama mirabilis (47.0), Lepomis gibbosus (18.8), Chondrostoma meandrense (12.8) and Barbus pectoralis (8.6) are dominant fish species in the reservoir.
