Abstract
The cereal leaf beetle, Oulema melanopus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomalidae), is one of the important pest of some wheat areas in Turkey. However, they did not become economically threatening until they become larger and begin feeding on leaves closer to the heads, especially the flag leaves. This study was conducted to determine population density, distribution area and host plants of the cereal leaf beetle in wheat fields of Kırıkhan and Hassa (Aktepe) districts in Hatay province using by net and visual inspection. According to the results, adults of cereal leaf beetle caught first time on April 8 and had one generation in wheat fields of Hatay province in Turkey in 2017. In addition, to determine distribution area of O. melanopus in wheat fields of Hatay province (Kırıkhan, Antakya (Merkez ,Demirköprü, Serinyol), Hassa (Merkez, Aktepe), Reyhanlı, Altınözü and Samandağ districts) were used visual inspection method between April and August in 2017. It was seen that wheat areas were infested by the pest in all districts. The cereal leaf beetle feeds on a wide range of host grasses, both in the larval and adult stages. As a result of this study, Hordeum bulbosum L., H. murinum L., Avena sterilis L., A. fatua L., Agropyron sp., Lolium sp., Sorghum halepense (L.), Secale cereale L. and Triticosecole Witt. were determined as it's host plants.
