In this study, two different types of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) were synthesized by using (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) and N-(2-Aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AEPTMS). Schiff bases were synthesized by reacting the resulting POSS compounds with salicylaldehyde (2-hydroxybenzaldehyde) and 5-bromo salicylaldehyde (5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde). Structures of POSS and their ligands were enlightened by analytical and spectroscopic methods such as elemental analysis (C, H, N), 1H-NMR, 29Si NMR, FT-IR, TGA-DTA. Cu2+ and Ni2+ metal complexes of Schiff bases were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, TGA-DTA, Magnetic Susceptibility and ICP-MS. Results showed that metallic ions were bonded to Schiff bases over fenolic oxygen and azomethine nitrogen atoms.
