Influenza is a respiratory infection that causes illness of 3-5 million people and 300.000 to 500.000 deaths annualy, worldwide. Though influenza viruses cause serious complications among children, pregnants and persons aged >65 years, influenza disease can occur among persons of all ages. Influenza A and influenza B are two main types that cause infection. Influenza A usually causes a more severe illness than influenza B. Influenza vaccination is the most effective method for preventing influenza. The most effective strategy for reducing the effect of influenza is annual vaccination. There are two types of influenza vaccine; trivalent inactivated (killed) influenza virus vaccines (TIV) and trivalent live attenuated influenza virus vaccine (LAIV). Influenza vaccines contain three different viruses; two different influenza type A strains and one influenza type B strain. World Health Organisation (WHO) annually recommends a vaccine composition that targets the three most representative strains in circulation. WHO annually recommends a vaccine composition that targets the three most representative strains in circulation.en_US
