dc.description.abstractThis study was carried out to determine the effects of MM106 and MM111 rootstocks on storage performance of 'Red Chief' apple cultivar, a new cultivar in Turkey. Fruits were obtained from trees grafted on MM106 and MM111 and stored at 0 degrees C and 90% relative humidity (RH) for 6 months. Percent weight loss, fruit flesh firmness fg-force), total soluble solids (TSS) (%), starch level (1-10 scale) and titretable acidity (%) were determined on fruit samples taken at a monthly interval. The weight loss and TSS content increased while acidity and fruit flesh firmness decreased during the 6 storage period. Percent weight loss were significantly higher in 'Red Chief apples grafted on MM106 (3.29%) than on fruits MM111 (2.60%) at the end of storage. Fruits from MM106 were firmer than those from MM111 at harvest and after the storage period even with the rapid conversion of starch to sugars after 3-4 months of storage.en_US
