Özet
The aim of this study is to develop hard gelatin capsules for better delivery of controlled release system bearing ampicillin. Rather than using plain drug to fill into the capsules, ampicillin was first encapsulated in alginate beads to provide controlled release behavior and then, these beads were placed in the capsules. The release of the drug occurred both by diffusion and erosion. %68 of ampicillin was released within the first 4 hours in the stomach and then, the rest of the drug was released in phosphate buffer of pH 7.4 within 2.6 hours. Microbiological assay indicated that the beads are effective. In conclusion, hard gelatin capsules containing alginate beads can be used for oral delivery of ampicillin to provide systemic effect for the treatment of infections.
