Çiğneme kaslarından ınusculus masseter'in üç, m. temporalis'in iki parçalı, m. pterygoideııs lateralis ve m. pterygoideus medialis'in ise bütün bir kas olduğu gözlendi. Sonuç olarak, yapılan çalışmayla Alman çoban köpeğinin articulatio temporomandibularis ve çiğneme kaslarının morfolojik detayları ortaya konmuştur.
The objective of the study was to establish the morphologic structure of temporomandibular joint in German shepherd dog due to the fact that there was no detailed research on the masticatory elements. In the study, 8 German shepherd dogs were used. Four heads were used to examine the joint and discus articularis histologically. The other heads were used for macroscopic examination of the masticatory muscles and the joints. It was seen that the orientations caput mandibulae and fossa mandibularis, which form the bone structure of the joint were in latero-medial direction. It was established thai the joint divided in two comparments by discus articularis, which was connected to the capsula articularis and petrotympanic fissure. Discus articularis was fibrous structure and elastic fibres were seen rarely in disc. Discus articularis included blood vessels. The masticatory muscles were found to include four muscles. Musculus masseter was divided into three parts, m. temporalis was divided into Iwo parts, whereas, m. pterygoideus lateralis and m. pterygoideus medialis were single parts. Consequently, morphologic details of lemporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles in thé German shepherd dog were utilized by the preseni study.
