dc.description.abstract | Azm-zade Ismail Pasha was the mutasarrif of Jerusalem, Gaza and Nablus sanjaks, governor of Tripoli and Damascus provinces, chief of the cerde corps and a pilgrim emir. After the Revolt of 1730, Ismail Pasha's office was terminated and his imprisonment and confiscation of his properties were decided. Moreover, this dismissal was applied not only to Ismail Pasha but also to the Azm-zade family. Although different reasons for the dismissals are put forward in the sources, it is not possible to attribute the dismissal of Ismail Pasha to a single reason, and the articles in the dismissal decision issued by the state for Ismail Pasha do not seem very convincing. In the end, with the restoration of calm in Istanbul, the Azm-zade administration in Damascus continued with Ismail Pasha's brother Suleyman Pasha. This is important in terms of showing the family's influence in the region. This study focuses on the issue of Azm-zade Ismail Pasha's dismissal and analyses his confiscated properties and the issues that arose during the confiscation by relying on the Ottoman Archives and other sources. | en_US |
