This study was carried out to determine the growth and fattening performance of male and female Awassi lambs born in the different seasons in traditional sheep farming in Kilis. Totally 48 male and female lambs was obtained by "The National Project on Breeding of Awassi Sheep under Farm Conditions " which was supported by General Directory of Agricultural Research and Policy, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock. Lambs were allocated into two groups and chosen 15 male and female lambs for the first group (born in October), 9 male and female lambs for the second group (born in December). All lambs were weaned at 60 days of age and then subjected to an adaptation period for 1 week. Then, lambs were subjected to intensive fattening for 10 weeks. They were fed roughage (lentil straw for the first group and vetch straw for the second group) and concentrated feed ad libitum in all feeding seasons. Live weights of lambs at the beginning and at the end of fattening period for the first and second term male groups were found to be 21.1 ± 0.30 kg, 46.4 ± 0.46 kg and 20.5 ± 0.49 kg, 39.8 ± 0.69 kg; female groups were found to be 19.8 ± 0.29 kg, 35.3 ± 0.46 kg and 19.3 ± 0.34 kg, 32.4 ± 0.35 kg, respectively. The mean daily weight gain, the mean daily feed intake and the mean feed conversion ratio for the first and second term male groups were found to be 361.4 ± 10.33 g, 1557 g, 4.43 kg and 275.8 ± 11.49 g, 1729 g, 6.65 kg; female groups were found to be 222.2 ± 8.05 g, 1214 g, 5.63 kg and 187.7 ± 8.60 g, 1686 g, 9.31 kg, respectively. In conclusion, the mean live weight gains and the main feed conversion ratio of Awassi male lambs subjected to feeding in different seasons were different showing that seasonal differences have a significant effect on these characteristics in the first term group. However, the mean live weight gains and the main feed efficient of Awassi female lambs subjected to different seasons were similar showing that seasonal differences did not have significant effect on these characteristics.
