Introduction and Objective: Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is one of the most common hemoglobinopathies in the world. In addition to organic complications, psychosocial complications can also occur in SCA. The goal in the treatment of SCD should be to treat the physical complications of the disease and to increase the psychosocial functioning. In our study, it was aimed to investigate the level of disability, depression, quality of life and sleep quality, which are among the psychosocial complications of the disease, and to measure the psychosocial status of our patients with SCA compared to the healthy group. Material and Method: Our study is an observational and controlled study, and the sample of the study consists of 100 patients followed up with SCA and 100 healthy individuals without any additional disease. In the research, the data were collected by face-to-face interview technique and 4 different scales were used. Data were collected by applying the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Multiple Quality of Life Scale, and Pitsburg Sleep Quality Index (PUKI) to the participants. Result: It was found that sickle cell anemia patients had significantly more disruptions in their work, social life, leisure activities, and responsibilities to family and home than the control group (p=0.000). No significant difference was found in the comparison of depression states (p=0.457). The sleep quality of the patient group was found to be worse than the control group (p=0.026). The physical health and physical functions of the patient group were worse than the control group (p=0.000 and p=0.004). Conclusions: It was determined that patients with sickle cell anemia had more disability, decreased sleep quality and decreased physical function in the field of work and social life compared to healthy controls. It would be beneficial to conduct more information meetings in order to detect and treat these dysfunctions early and to inform the families of the patients about the course of the disease, possible complications and effective coping methods.
