Muayene edilen 419 at dışkısının 280’i (%66.8) tek parazit türüyle, 38’i (%9.1) iki parazit türüyle, 1 tanesi ise (%0.2) üç parazit türüyle enfekte bulunmuştur.
In the study, thoroughbred race horses breeding Adana and Mersin region between March 2009 - February 2010 were studied the presence and distribution of gastrointestinal helminths. For the purpose, the faeces of 419 horses from 22 farms that contain 21 pasture area were examined by using sedimentation and flotation methods. In addition, horses suffered from pruritus were investigated for Oxyuris equi with cellophane tape techniques. As a consequence of coprological examination with sedimentation and flotation methods, helminth infections related with pasture were found highly prevalent (76.1%) in horses. The infection rate was 74.9% Strongylidae, 8.6% Parascaris equorum and 2.1% Anoplocephalidae, respectively. Two horses suffered from pruritus were infected with O. equi infection. After the completing of the examination 419 horse faeces, 280 (66.8%) with a single parasite species, 38 (9.1%) with two parasite species, and 1 (0.2%) with three parasite species were found respectively. All of 22 horse farms detected Strongylidae eggs were carried out fecal cultures. But, 15 farms including 314 horses, the 3rd stage larvae were obtained. In 12 of 15 focuses were found Cyathostominae larvae, 2 focuses with the larvae of Cyathostominae and Strongylus vulgaris, 1 focus with the larvae of Cyathostominae, S. vulgaris, S. equinus and S. edentatus, respectively. As a result of this study, helminth infections conducted in Adana and Mersin region in pasture breeding horses for racing and sports were observed as pretty widespread.
