In this study, Triticum dicoccum L.cv, an ancestral wheat germinated under the stress of salt (NaCl) and cadmium (CdCl2). Gacer cultivar and bread wheat cultivars T. aestivum L. cv. Şehzade, Meke, Bayındır and İkonya were examined. The effects of salt and cadmium on germination, root length, mitotic index of wheat seeds and different stages of mitosis were investigated. In this study, it was determined that the root lengths and mitosis stages of wheat cultivars treated with 200mM NaCl, 1mM CdCl2 and salt + cadmium were significantly reduced. It was observed that germination decreased in all wheat seeds treated with CdCl2. Among the studied varieties, it was determined that Gacer variety, which is the most resistant to salt and cadmium stress, is an ancestral wheat. In addition, it was determined that the application of Cd, which is a toxic metal compared to the control, caused a decrease in cell division and significantly inhibited root growth.
