Abstract
The study was designed to determine the blood levels of omega fatty acids, which have an important role in the etiology of mammary tumors in dogs, in healthy and mammary tumor dogs. The study was carried out in 9 clinically mammary tumor diagnosed and 8 healthy female dogs. 10 ml blood samples were taken from anticoagulant tubes before the operation of dogs diagnosed clinically as mammary tumors and blood samples were kept at -20°C until analysis of omega fatty acids. Approximately 10 ml of blood samples were taken from clinically healthy dogs and anticoagulant tubes and blood samples were kept at -20°C until analysis of omega fatty acids. Tumor suspicious masses were removed by mastectomy and sent to the laboratory for histopathological examination. According to histopathological diagnosis results, 9 tissues were found to be malignant mammary tumors. Omega-3 levels were found to be high in healthy dogs (p<0.001) and omega-6 levels were higher in dogs with mammary (p<0.001). As a result, omega-3 level which has protective effect on mammary tumors is higher in the blood of healthy dogs (p<0.001), and omega-6 level which increases mammary tumor risk and disease progression is higher in dogs with mammary tumor (p<0.001). It is concluded that omega fatty acids are an important factor in the biological mechanism of mammary tumor in dogs.
