This study was carried out to determine suitable cool season grass species and mixtures for deformed grasslands by using over-seeding method in Mediterranean Region between 2011 and 2012 at Mustafa Kemal University, Agricultural Faculty, research area of Department of Field Crops. Over seeding method was performed by using cv. 'Integra' as a perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), Arid III as a tall fescue grass (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), 'Franklin' as a creeping red fescue grass (Festuca rubra L. subsp. rubra), and 'Bluechip' as a kentucky blue grass (Poa pratensis L.) species. In this study, cover rate, grass color, leaf texture, grass density and quality was investigated. The highest cover rate (86.3%) values was obtained from pure perennial grass, the lowest (23.1%) was from Kentucky bluegrass. In terms of grass color, all treatments were greener (over 7.2 score) than control treatment which was yellow - green (4.8 score). Grass texture was better in mixtures (over 6.4 score) than in control treatment (3.8 score). Grass density was also better in mixtures (over 5.6 score) more than in control treatment (3.9). Grass quality was more acceptable and higher (between 5.8 and 6.9 scores, respectively) than in control treatment (the lowest score of 3.6). Our results showed that cool season grass species such as perennial grass and tall fescue mixtures or their double or triple mixtures with creeping red fescue and Kentucky bluegrass species could be successfully used to recover deformed grasslands of Mediterranean Regions especially during winter seasons
