Abstract
İskenderun, tarihte birçok medeniyete ev sahipliği yapmış önemli bir liman kentidir. İskenderun, Doğu Akdeniz'de bulunmakla birlikte Ortadoğu'nun önemli bir ticaret kenti olan Halep'in doğal limanı konumundadır. İskenderun şehri ve limanı eşine az rastlanır bir coğrafi konuma sahiptir. Tarih boyunca birçok devletin ilgisini çeken İskenderun ve limanı bu çalışma da kapsamlı bir şekilde ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmaya, I. Dünya Savaş'ının yaşandığı süreçte İskenderun'un İtilaf Devletleri açısından önemi anlatılarak başlanmıştır. Akabinde İngiltere'nin İskenderun'u işgal planlarına değinilmiş ve savaş esnasında İskenderun sahillerinde yaşanan olaylar aktarılmıştır. Devamında ise Fransızlar ve İngilizlerin İskenderun'u işgal ederek burada kurmuş oldukları "İskenderun Sancağı" adındaki idari yönetimden bahsedilmiştir. Bunların dışında çalışmamızda İskenderun Sancağı'ndan Hatay Devleti'ne kadar uzanan süreçte bölgedeki Türklerin bağımsızlık mücadeleleri ve bölgenin önemi vurgulanmıştır. Bölgede bulunan İskenderun limanın Hatay Devleti dönemindeki faaliyetlerinin anlatıldığı bu çalışmamızda Hatay'ın anavatana katılış sürecine de yer verilmiştir. Son olarak II. Dünya Savaşı'nın yaşandığı yıllarda bölgedeki gelişmeler ve İskenderun'da modern bir limanın yapım aşamaları aktarılmaya çalışılmıştır.
Iskenderun is an important port city that has hosted many civilizations in history. Iskenderun is the natural port of Aleppo, an important trade city in the Middle East, although it is located in the Eastern Mediterranean. The city and port of Iskenderun has a unique geographical location. Iskenderun and its port, which have attracted the attention of many states throughout history, have been tried to be dealt with comprehensively in this study. The study started by explaining the importance of Iskenderun for the Allied Powers during the First World War. Subsequently, England's plans to invade Iskenderun were mentioned and the events that took place on the shores of Iskenderun during the war were conveyed. Afterwards, the administrative administration called "Iskenderun Sanjak", which the French and the British occupied Iskenderun and established here, is mentioned. Apart from these, our study emphasized the independence struggles of the Turks in the region and the importance of the region in the process from the Iskenderun Sanjak to the Hatay State. In this study, in which the activities of the Iskenderun port in the region during the Hatay State period are explained, the process of joining the homeland of Hatay is also included. Finally, II. During the years of World War II, the developments in the region and the construction stages of a modern port in Iskenderun were tried to be conveyed.
